This week’s South Park episode featured a familiar face to those of us closely following the electric vehicles space – Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

More specifically of interest was a very timely spoof of Mr. Musk’s launch of the Tesla Model S P85D, complete with a stage equipped robot.

The snippet of most interest is at the beginning of the episode (video above), while one can check the whole episode below.

The synopsis for those not wanting to invest the 21+ minutes is this:

Timmy, is raising money for summer camp by starting Handicar, a rideshare powered by his electric wheelchair…via the Handicar app of course.  Handicar proves popular, so much that Mathew McConaughey vouches for it in a spoof of his awkward series of Lincoln ads.

Enter Elon Musk and his fear of this new business model, and the “Wacky Races” are born.  Blah, ditty-blah, and in the end Elon Musk just buys out Handicar for $2.3 billion dollars.

Total Viewership of the episode: 1,733,000
Cost to Tesla for promotion: $0

And yes Elon watched it…and tweeted.  Naturally.

Elon seems a bit out of character on the show, but whatever… I guess they ran out of things to make fun of?

Yeah. Musk is the kind of character who would offer to voice over his character in this episode. He wouldn’t fit though, he doesn’t sound frustrated or angry with is South African accent.

What really shocked me was that they had such a perfect and easy target. The Model D, and they didn’t say anything about it! They just let such an easy joke slide by, very unlike Sout Park.

I like the presentation of Elon as the evil baron. Hey, doesn’t making south park mean you have arrived?

I thought that was true for making Simpsons?

TIMMAH!!! :-p

+100 😉

There was a poster over at Gm-Volt.com who would go by the name Jimmy, or sometimes something else but refer to themselves as “Jimmy’s wife”. This person claimed to be a GM *insider* and would always spout anti-EV nonsense. Every time they started ranting, all I could think of was Jimmahhh! Jimmah…. Jimmah.

Is something wrong with me? I never thought South Park was fun. I really wish someone would see me as a retard and explain what is the fun in all the moments. Maybe I could learn to think South Park is fun.

It’s satire and generally uses pop culture stuff which not everyone will get, such as the Wacky Races that took place in this episode. Not everyone will get it.

What I like about South Park is that they can usually air an episode which covers current event stuff almost immediately, as opposed to other shows which typically take months to plan out episodes. Also, their tendency to make fun of celebrities or other famous people, especially ones who are very pretentious and act like they’re better than everyone else.

I think in this case they were being fairly lenient to Tesla and Elon Musk, considering their treatment of other celebrities such as Tom Cruise, Paris Hilton, Jennifer Lopez, and Barbara Streisand.

Well I do admit that I don’t get everything in South Park. But I do see some points they make. But the fact that I understand some things doesn’t necessarily make it funny. That’s the main problem I have with South Park.

If you do know a really funny South Park clip please post a link, and I will try to see the fun.

I do like the Simpsons and Larson type of humour.

All South Park episodes are brilliant but this one is really funny!
