An electric vehicle salesman shows off a rare Rivian that features a discontinued paint job.
TikTok user recharged.com (@recharged.com) is an EV dealer based in Richmond, Va. In a video posted earlier this week, one of the Recharged salesmen shows off “the rarest Rivian R1T color you’ll ever see.”
The video starts with the salesman walking through the lot. “You guys know we carry a wide variety of inventory, so our buyers can really understand all the EVs that are available to them,” he says. “We’re walking past a [Volkswagen] ID.4. [Kia] EV6. We got Rivians. Audis. Lucids. But, I just got one in that I gotta get your opinion on the color.”
The salesman cautions viewers that this isn’t your everyday Rivian. “It’s different,” he says. “In fact, it’s been discontinued. They don’t do this color anymore.”
Finally, he walks up to the Rivian in question. “What do you guys think about this Compass Yellow Rivian R1T?” he asks. “This is a color that was inspired by their logo. Would you drive it? Yes or no?”

Two years ago, Rivian announced it would discontinue the Compass Yellow paint option in what InsideEVs viewed as a cost-cutting measure. The move even impacted customers in the buying process who had already selected the option.
The Compass Yellow paint received a ton of love in this Reddit post to r/Rivian shortly after the news broke. “It’s sad, because although it’s not the right color for me, I love seeing it out in the world,” one person wrote. “There won’t be as many now.”

A second commenter responded, “Fully agree with you. Red Canyon is personally my top pick, but every time I see a Compass Yellow one I flip out with excitement.”
One person said they were just starting the buying process when the news broke. “The R1S in Compass Yellow was my dream car,” they wrote. “I’ll probably keep the reservation, but this definitely takes the wind out of my sails.”
According to Edmunds, a used 2023 Rivian R1T in Compass Yellow will cost you approximately $59,000. As there is currently only one listed on the website, it appears those Reddit users were right to be worried the yellow Rivian would become a rarity.
