China remains the top plug-in electric car market in the world.

Sales are not only the highest, but also are increasing quicker than almost anywhere else.

In April, some 71,700 plug-in cars were sold In China – up 129% year-over-year, at record high market share of 3.7%!

After four months of 2018, sales amounted to nearly 197,500 cars at average 2.3% market share, according to the EV Sales Blog.

The best-selling model for the month and for the year is, without surprise, the BAIC EC-Series. This small, all-electric car noted nearly 7,500 in a single month – and more than 27,000 so far in 2018.

BYD placed three models in the top five (Song at #2, Qin at #3 and e5 at #5), and as always in recent times JAC iEV S/E keeps the pace at #4.

The Baojun E100 – fruit of GM and SAIC partnership – achieved 3,760 sales last month and 5,342 YTD. Price of $7,300 (after subsidies) does the job.

Fantastic China.
Another 10,300 + public plugin (Buses & Trucks) were sold which means some Diesel vehicles are also replaced.

This puts China + USA sales at 90,000.
This may take worldwide sales to around 120,000 in 2018-05.

BYD is also and finally entering the cheaper BEV market with the Yuan EV360 starting at ~12,500 USD…

US raps the past while China rocks BEVs…

LICE companies; Legacy Internal Combustion Engine vehicle companies.

And even worse for the laggard, legacy US LICE companies is that they are converting to largely selling gas guzzling trucks/SUVs and all it will take is one war or price spike in oil to basically kill their business.

I still remember getting calls from multiple Stealerships to please trade in my Prius because they couldn’t sell their gas guzzling LICE crap during the last oil spike of 2007-2008.

That BYD car is sure not a looker… but might work well in China, as the parking and streets are so tight in the cities.

This is excellent coverage, keep tracking the Chinese initiative. China already manufactures everything so no surprise at the speed of bringing change.
