Tesla Model S Plaid Gets The Police Cruiser Treatment
It’s one of the fastest police vehicles in the world and the first unit will go to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
- This is the world's first Tesla Model S Plaid police patrol vehicle.
- It's made by Unplugged Performance, a company specializing in modifying electric vehicles, especially Tesla models.
We’re used to seeing and reading about all the outrageous cars in Dubai’s police fleet, like the Bugatti Veyron, Lamborghini Urus and Nissan GT-R. Well, we can now say that we have that at home because the good people at Unplugged Performance made the country’s first Tesla Model S Plaid police car.
It’s one of the fastest cars in the world, with over 1,000 horsepower on tap and a zero to sixty miles per hour time of just 1.99 seconds (according to Tesla), so it should be a good partner for officers who are trying to catch baddies riding in good-old muscle cars. It’s also a pretty unassuming car, especially for those who don’t know what they’re dealing with, which can mislead any speeding driver who thinks it’s “just another EV.”
The police-ready Model S Plaid is the product of Up.Fit, Unplugged Performance’s arm that modifies EVs for several applications, including police duty and military work. You might have seen their Model Y police cruiser or the rather outrageous apocalypse-like Cybertruck.
The first Tesla Model S Plaid patrol vehicle to come out of Up.Fit’s garage will go to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Motorsports community outreach program. It’s fitted with custom forward- and rear-facing warning lights integrated into the front and rear glass to preserve the car’s aerodynamics. There are additional lights in the side skirts and the push-bumper. High- and low-frequency emergency sirens and public alert systems are also fitted to the electric cruiser, making it fully compliant with California’s Title 13 which mandates what a Highway Patrol vehicle needs to be fitted with, among other things.
The go-fast electric police car also gets some goodies under the skin, such as upgraded brakes and forged lightweight wheels.

“The UP.FIT Plaid Pursuit embodies everything we value in electric police vehicles,” said Ben Schaffer, CEO of Unplugged Performance. “From outstanding acceleration and range to reduced maintenance and fuel costs, this platform offers law enforcement the latest tools to enhance their mission while saving taxpayers’ money and promoting a cleaner future.”
You can check out Up.Fit’s Model S Plaid police cruiser at this year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas that’s open until tomorrow.
