Recently, we¬†uncovered a more detailed Tesla Motors’s plan for Supercharger rollout in the UK and Ireland up to the end of 2015.

By September, England will have 4 Supercharging stations on-line. Then, another 7 will be added by December 2014 (11 total).

Next year, Tesla plans to install another 12 stations and fully cover both UK and Ireland. In total there will be 23 stations on the islands.

Some noted cities to be inside the Supercharging network over the next 18 months are:

  • Belfast
  • Dublin
  • Galway
  • Aberdeen
  • Manchester
  • Edinburgh
  • Glasgow
  • Sunderland

For sure one of the factors, which could delay some of the installations in the UK, is clash with Ecotricity on charging point locations.

Hmm, it seems you guys really have a good source for this as this is the first time I see the SC UK coverage for 2015. Do you have anything similar for Central Europe?

Yes, we were exciting to come across these plans. Nothing for Central Europe unfortunately, but we’ll keep our eyes open, (;

In case it may be of interest (just from Tesla’s website):

SC map for Europe for Winter 2014-15 (which I would take to mean: by around 20 March 2015): 128 SC.
23 now. So, in average 11.7/month or 2.7/week need to be installed.

US: 2014 (Dec) map has about 214 SC.
97 now. So, in average 18.5/month or 4.2/week need to be installed.

On 2 February 2014 there were 73 SC (locations) in US.
So, in the last months only about 5.2 per month, or 1.2 per week, have been added.
But we should remember than in the weeks from 16 Dec 2013 to 26 Jan 2014 the n. of SC added weekly (in US) has been:
5, 4, 2, 7, 8, 5. Average: 5.2.
So, the situation is not “desperate”…
Tesla might still be able to install the 4.2/week necessary to meet their 2014 “goal”.
But even if it doesn’t and we have to wait a bit longer… it doesn’t change much, to me…
They’re making something revolutionary!
And, as we hear, other companies my also start installing “clones”.

The shading in the second map doesn’t make sense to me, with a supercharger in Edinburgh the range should extend farther north.

This is good in that gas in England is $10.00 dollars a gallon.

The UK is is some ways an ideal place for electric transportation. It doesn’t take too many fast charge locations to provide virtually complete mobility, especially when long distance travel almost inevitably means using the motorways.
