2026 Subaru Uncharted: Subaru's Third EV Debuts Next Week
The 2026 Uncharted will join the Subaru Solterra and Trailseeker in the outdoorsy brand's electric lineup.
- Subaru will reveal its next electric model on July 17 in New York.
- It's called the 2026 Uncharted.
- It will join the Solterra crossover and the upcoming Trailseeker wagon in Subaru's electric lineup.
Subaru is on something of a new-model tear this year. In April it unveiled a significantly refreshed Solterra with way more range and a Tesla NACS charging port. It also dropped the Trailseeker, a wagon that's a lot like an electric Outback.
It all felt like a long time coming for a brand that always seemed ripe for electrification. Subaru fans love nature and punchy all-wheel-drive performance, so electrification is a great fit. On Thursday, Subaru said it will unveil its third electric model next week.
We don't know much of anything about the 2026 Subaru Uncharted, apart from its name and what we can gather from a zoomed-out teaser photo. And the fact that Subaru calls it a "compact crossover SUV."
But we can also make some educated guesses here.
As a refresher, Subaru has teamed up with Toyota for its initial batch of electric offerings. The Solterra is a cousin to the Toyota bZ4X. The new Trailseeker is a Subaru-badged variant of its partner's bZ Woodland wagon.
Toyota, Subaru's partner in EVs, recently unveiled the 2026 C-HR.
Toyota recently unveiled the new C-HR, a small, sporty electric crossover coming to America later next year. So it's likely that the Uncharted will be Subaru's version of that, and thus an electric alternative to the brand's compact Crosstrek.
The teaser photo backs that up. Through the plume of dust coming off the Uncharted's rear wheels, we can detect a distinctly pinched, coupe-like design. Plus, the Uncharted appears to have the same upward kink in the bodywork at the base of the rear windows as we see in the C-HR.
The 2026 Toyota C-HR looks a lot like the 2026 Subaru Uncharted.
By the way, how did Subaru end up with all the sick-ass names here? I'd take an Uncharted or a Trailseeker over a C-HR or a bZ Woodland any day of the week. But maybe that's just me.
What we do know about the C-HR is that it will get the same 74.7 kilowatt-hour battery as the refreshed Toyota bZ, and deliver a Toyota-estimated 290 miles of range. The C-HR comes standard as dual-motor all-wheel-drive, which would fit nicely into Subaru's portfolio (theoretically, of course), and it puts down a respectable 338 horsepower. If Subaru charts the same course, it could have similar specs.
We'll learn more next week when the 2026 Uncharted makes its debut. There's one thing we know for sure: It's about to get a whole lot easier for Subaru fans to go electric.
