The biturbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine comes paired to a 9.2-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, propelling the large luxury vehicle to 60 miles per hour in just 5.1 seconds, and on to a top speed of 155 miles per hour.
14. Cadillac CT6 PHEV
355 HP / 430 LB-FT
If it’s an American offering you’re after, Cadillac produces a plug-in CT6 complete with 355 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. That bests the plug-in BMW 7 Series by 32 horses and 61 pound-feet. The CT6 plug-in will sprint to 60 miles per hour in just 5.2 seconds.
13. BMW i8 / Roadster
369 HP / 420 LB-FT
Though it may be one of the few sports cars on this list, the BMW i8 is surprisingly just the 12th most-powerful plug-in hybrid on the market. With a modest performance bump for 2018, the sporty Bimmer now produces 369 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, and is available either as either a coupe or a cabrio.
12. Volvo XC60 T8 Plug-In
400 HP / 472 LB-FT
With a supercharged and turbocharged inline-four engine, paired to a 10.4-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, the Volvo XC60 lands in the top 15 with 400 total horses on tap. With all that oomph – at least for a family-oriented SUV – the XC60 will sprint to 60 miles per hour in only 5.5 seconds, and continue on to a top speed of 142 miles per hour.
11. Volvo S60 T8
400 HP
The paint has barely dried on the new S60, but already the entry-level plug-in option cracks the top 15. The sharp sedan sends 400 horsepower to all four wheels thanks to its T8 twin-engine hybrid setup – but it’s not even the most powerful S60 in the lineup... (Volvo has not released torque figures for the S60 yet).
10. Volvo XC90 T8
400 HP / 472 LB-FT
Once again, Volvo makes its presence known in the powerful plug-in world. The full-size XC90 SUV comes with a nearly identical T8 hybrid setup found on the XC60 and S60, producing 400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque.
9. Volvo S90 T8
402 HP / 480 LB-FT
Besting both the XC90 and the S60, the full-size S90 sedan puts to use the same T8 hybrid setup found on its sedan and SUV siblings, but produces a bit more power. The S90 produces 402 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque.
8. Karma Revero
403 HP / 981 LB-FT
From the ashes of Fisker rose Karma in 2016. The newfound marque essentially took the same sexy styling of the outgoing Karma, and translated it into a more mainstream – most importantly more powerful – product. The new Karma Revero produces a whopping 403 horsepower, and comes powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and a pair of electric motors.
7. Volvo S60 T8 Polestar Designed
415 HP
The most powerful Volvo vehicle on this list (and there are many) is the brand-new S60 T8 with the optional Polestar Designed package. With some aerodynamic bodywork, a tuned suspension, and an upgrade to the T8 hybrid setup pumping out 415 horsepower, it’s the most powerful, arguably most-aggressive S60 ever built. (Volvo has not released torque figures for the S60 yet).
6. Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid
416 HP / 435 LB-FT
With a powerful six-cylinder engine – good for 333 horsepower on its own – and a lithium-ion hybrid battery pack, the Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid pumps out a hefty 416 horsepower and 435 pound-feet of torque. It’s the most powerful plug-in SUV Porsche currently produces.
5. Mercedes-Benz S550e
436 HP / 479 LB-FT
If you want a luxurious, powerful Mercedes plug-in, look no further than the Mercedes-Benz S550e. With a 3.0-liter V6 and a larger 13.5-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, the luxurious Benz produces 436 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. With all that power on tap, it’s capable of a top speed of 130 miles per hour.
4. Mercedes-Benz GLE 500e
436 HP / 479 LB-FT
A surprising entry on this list is the Mercedes-Benz GLE 500e 4Matic plug-in. Pairing a 3.0-liter biturbo V6 to an electric motor yields a power output of 436 horsepower and 479 pound feet. The spritely SUV can sprint to 60 miles per hour in just 5.2 seconds.
3. Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid
462 HP / 516 LB-FT
Though it’s no Turbo S model (you'll see that one soon), the Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid still pumps out 462 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque thanks to its 2.9-liter biturbo V6 and 14.1-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. From a standstill, it can sprint to 60 miles per hour in 4.4 seconds and will continue on to a top speed of 172 miles per hour. It's one hot four-door.
2. Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid
680 HP / 626 LB-FT
The Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid may only be half as powerful as the most powerful plug-in on our list – but it’s still plenty quick. With a biturbocharged 4.0-liter V8 paired to a 14.1-kilowatt-hour battery pack, the powerful Porsche can sprint to 60 miles per hour in just 3.2 seconds and continue on to a top speed of 192 miles per hour.
1. Koenigsegg Regera
Naturally, the most powerful plug-in money can buy is the multi-million-dollar Koenigsegg Regera. It debuted in 2016, and though it will be limited to just 80 examples, the company promises it will be the "most powerful and fastest accelerating production car ever." And with 1,500 horsepower and 1,475 pound-feet of torque on tap, how could you argue?
Power comes courtesy of a biturbocharged 5.0-liter V8 that itself produces a hefty 1,100 horsepower, combined with three YASA electric motors – each powered by a 4.5 kilowatt-hour, 800-volt liquid cooled battery pack developed by Rimac. With a kinetic energy recovery system also equipped, the Regera is able to regenerate up to 150 kilowatts of power to recharge the battery. It’s one impressive plug-in, to say the least.
