Tesla enthusiast Frunktotrunk (@frunktotrunk) posted a video detailing whether or not he has any regrets purchasing his Tesla. He’s over-the-moon excited with his purchase. He just wishes he bought into the brand sooner.

Viewers, on the other hand, responded in the comments with a litany of cons to his pros.

Frunktotrunk begins his video by speaking directly into the camera, holding a microphone in his hand. A white Tesla Model 3 can be seen parked behind him. He then delves into whether or not he regrets purchasing the vehicle. “So do I regret buying this Tesla? Let’s have a talk about Tesla regrets. So, some things that you need to know maybe before you buy one, that might help or give you more information,” he tells his viewers.

No Maintenance On a Tesla?

Next, he motions toward the vehicle and gives a little background on it. First up, the maintenance costs of the vehicle. Many drivers are intrigued by electric vehicles because they don’t require many of the same maintenance procedures that regular vehicles do. Overall, EVs typically have much fewer moving parts, which leads many folks to believe the cars are effectively maintenance free.

There’s no need for any oil or transmission fluid changes because there’s no engine or transmission. There have been tons of stories published online by happy Tesla owners who’ve gone hundreds of thousands of miles in their cars without any major complaints. Not to mention Consumer Reports stated in 2024 that Teslas, specifically, have the lowest maintenance costs compared to every other automotive brand.

Tesla: Most Recalled Car Brand

However, one might say that these instances are examples of cherry picking and don’t tell the whole story about the all-electric brand. Especially when the automaker was cited as the most-recalled car in 2023, and news of a 1.8 million car recall in 2024 doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in their reliability either. And if you’ve ever owned a Model 3, you may have been subjected to control arm failure, which many claim is a persistent, widespread defect for the vehicle.

The car influencer went on to speak about his experiences with regards to maintaining his Tesla. As far as he’s concerned, owning one has been an entirely hassle-free experience. “So this is my first Tesla, I bought it in 2021. It has 74,000 miles. Now something they don’t tell you when you buy a car, a Tesla, what’s the maintenance gonna be? I can tell you over 73,000 miles around, 74,000 I haven’t had a single problem with my Tesla. That’s actually how most Tesla owners’ experience go. Windshield wiper fluid and normal tire replacements.”

Road Trips In a Tesla: No Regrets

In fact, his experience with his first Tesla was so great that he purchased another. Frunktotrunk also stated that his experience road tripping in his Tesla was nothing but pleasant. “We took our Model Y on a road trip after owning Teslas since 2021. Here’s what I can tell you about regrets or planning if you’re buying a Tesla, and maybe switching from gas,” he says.

Next, he addresses concerns folks may have when it comes to range anxiety. “One of the biggest concerns is range or road trips with charging. And I can tell you I don’t have a single regret when it comes to road trips and here’s why,” Frunktotrunk states.

Following this, he said that the vehicle’s standard Autopilot mode, which functions much like adaptive cruise control with lane assist, made commuting a breeze. He went on to clarify that he wasn’t even using the car’s full self-driving functionality, either. “I put it on Autopilot and my Model Y drove me probably 85-90% of the entire trip. All I do is sit back and monitor the road. And basic Autopilot is completely free. You don’t have to pay anything extra. If you want more capabilities you can subscribe to full self-driving for $99 bucks a month. So really the only regrets that I have, honestly, from buying these cars is that I didn’t do it sooner. And that might sound cliche, it might sound like I don’t have any complaints. But that’s literally because I don’t. I save money, I charge at home, they’re super fast, super safe, with all of the cameras and amazing on road trips. So what do you think? Wish I did it sooner.”

Not So Rose-Tinted Tesla Stories

While Frunktotrunk was overwhelmingly positive in his assessment of Tesla, there have been others who thought otherwise. Like this woman who recorded herself in one of the brand’s vehicles with its full self-driving engaged. In her clip, she shows the car attempting to drive directly into a body of water, which only stopped when the driver intervened.

Furthermore, the brand’s been hit with class-action lawsuits over its Autopilot and full self-driving capabilities. Claimants have argued that the brand misled consumers over the purported safety of this functionality in 2022. In 2025, government regulatory bodies in France have investigated the brand’s autonomous driving features due to safety concerns. Furthermore, one needn’t search too hard to locate a law firm that’s putting together cases against the automaker composed of Autopilot accidents. InsideEVs also reported on legal cases pertaining to “Autopilot safety issues” that plaintiffs argued resulted in fatalities for those behind the wheel of a Tesla.

Moreover, the Department of Motor Vehicles in California is suing Tesla, alleging that the car maker’s “full self-driving” technology is misleading buyers.

Commenters React

Numerous folks replied to Frunktotrunk’s video with differing anecdotes about their Tesla experiences. One person seemed to echo his effusively optimistic outlook of the brand. “One person replied: “Just took a 950 mi road trip for vacation last week. FSD is amazing and we only stopped 5 times with about an hour or so of charging,” they wrote.

Another person also said they love the EV brand. “I have the new model Y and I absolutely love it. Never felt this way about any other cars I’ve owned. FSD is a game changer! I’ll never go back,” they remarked.

Whereas someone else said that while they do love their Model Y, they did notice some issues with the vehicle. “Love my Tesla Y, basic auto I’ve witnessed a few wobbles where I’ve had to take control very quickly! Also asks me to keep hands on steering wheel every few seconds, that’s annoying!”

However, there was one person who said their 2026 Model Y was outfitted with what sounds like a faulty air conditioning unit. “I bought a Model Y 2026. The AC has broken twice after 3 weeks.”

What do you think?

Someone else said that their insurance premiums skyrocketed after purchasing a Tesla. “I have a Model Y on order. Currently have a paid off Prius. I’m starting to have buyers remorse just because I will be going from no car payment to a car payment. Ugh! Plus, insurance is gonna go up around $1000 every 6 months,” they penned.
