Woman Says She’s Tired Of EVs Marketed to Men. So She Shares 5 Reasons the ‘Girlies’ Will Love the Hummer EV
'I rate it a 14 out of 10 on the TJ Maxx bag scale.'
A woman wanted to make her own female-centric commercial for GMC’s Hummer EV as she was disappointed that many electric vehicles are often marketed toward male consumers. Brittany Gibbons (@thebrittanygibbons) uploaded her commercial to TikTok where she highlighted some of her favorite features of the vehicle.
And they’re ones that she believes are going to resonate with other women looking for an electric vehicle that could fit their lifestyle.
Furthermore, she also broke down in the post’s caption why she believes the car is a great buy. First, she said the vehicle is capable of hitting 0-60 miles per hour in a mere 3.5 seconds, “Yes she a big girl, but quick,” Gibbons pens.
Then, Gibbons said she was a fan of the Hummer’s 300-mile range because “we do not stop for basic boys or chargers.” Moreover, the ability to remove the car’s top “for the vibes” was another selling point she found alluring.
As for the Hummer’s crabwalk mode, Gibbons thought commuters would appreciate it because she’s able to “sidestep…outta drama and parallel parking.” And her method of marketing the Hummer’s safety features also sported verbiage social media denizens might appreciate, too. “She got more cameras than an influencer trip to Tulum,” Gibbons penned. All of these features made the Hummer EV, in her estimation, a strong “contender” for the next car she plans on purchasing.
Hummer EV ‘Girlie’ Commercial
In her TikTok, Gibbons gave a more thorough breakdown as to why she is seriously considering purchasing a Hummer EV. “I am tired of seeing cool cars only marketed to men. I’m gonna give you 5 reasons this Hummer is perfect for you, Girly pop,” she says at the start of her clip. Next, her clip transitions to exterior glamour shots of the powerful electric truck. When the camera pulls back she reveals that the EV’s infinity roof has been removed. The first reason why she believes that a lot of folks will enjoy the new electrified Hummer is due to the “literally stupid amount of storage” it possesses.
She demonstrates this by engaging its automatic hatch opening mechanism, followed by popping the EV’s frunk as well.
“I rate it a 14 out of 10 on the TJ Maxx bag scale.” Following this, she records herself nestled in the frunk: “The only thing bigger is like a Uhaul.” Afterward, the camera pans back, giving viewers a full view of just how large it is. “This thing is gigantic. It’s giving serious small girl vibes,” she adds. Gibbons poses in front of the car and holds her hands out to the camera, making a sad puppy dog face to the camera.

Electric Drivetrain, Cupholders Galore
She also extolled the vehicle’s complete reliance on electricity for power. She then plugs the adapter into her truck while she smiles into the camera.
Another added benefit of the Hummer EV, according to Gibbons, is the amount of cupholders it has. “For your information this is a 6-cup vehicle,” she says. She then moves out of the way of her EV to showcase its backseat armrest, easily holding two large metal tumblers with straws jutting out of them. An additional quick pan shows two more in the front seat, before she cracks open the rear passenger side door. Indeed, another Tumbler has been stuffed into the side cubby.
At the end of her clip, she records herself driving down the road with the top down. Her hair whisps in the wind as she smirks toward the lens, sunglasses covering her eyes. She writes that the Hummer EV’s top-down functionality allows commuters to engage in “Summer Hot Girl Vibes.”
Electric Vehicles and Female Drivers
InsideEVs previously reported that 71% of all fully-electric cars are owned by men. What’s more is that it doesn’t appear like marketing attempts at capturing the attention of female drivers is all that successful, either. That’s because 74% of all shoppers who inquire into EVs are also male.
Research firm Escalent, which delved into the demographics of EV purchases, penned that much of these buying trends can be attributed to the nature of how men decide to buy a car versus women.
The research group stated that male commuters tend to prioritize online research, whereas women opt for more in-person buying ventures. Subsequently, women tend to ask more pressing questions in the moment pertaining to EV ownership, such as the realities associated with home charging set up and installation. Since many “conventional dealer employees aren’t good at answering those questions,” prospective buyers aren’t exactly left feeling confident with purchasing an all-electric vehicle.
One rep from Escalent added that “women are much less familiar with the BEV powertrain than males are.” This is largely attributed to female buyers tending to stick with brands that they trust and know. And if their friend groups don’t contain folks who own BEVs or have driven them themselves, they’re less likely to purchase one.
Hummer EV: A Good Buy?
There was a time when a Hummer EV cost more than a cheap house. However, after the gas crisis died down along with the fervor surrounding GMC’s high-powered, massive EV has not only its markups slashed, but its MSRP as well. Used ones can be had for as low as $59,795, via this online CarFax online search. Other low mileage examples are listed in the $70,000 to $80,000 range as well.
Before shelling out for one, however, drivers may want to take account of some of the Hummer EV’s purported issues. One Redditor called their experience owning one a “nightmare” delineating multiple trips to the dealer for the woes they encountered upon purchasing a Hummer EV. They cited issues with its “battery management system,” with GM service techs left scratching their heads as to how to fix it. Consumer Reports also listed that one of two recalls with the Hummer EV referred to battery problems. “Water accumulation in the high voltage battery pack can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash,” the product watchdog site penned.
