VIDEO: The New Xiaomi SU7 Is Very Much Ready For Europe
The updated Xiaomi SU7 is stellar, and doesn’t need much to make it ready for European markets.
The updated Xiaomi SU7 is a very, very swell car, and you don’t have to take my word for it. Since the EV's debut in 2024, it’s captivated journalists, influencers, and industry insiders alike, for good reason. On the global stage, it’s a hard car to match, offering the refinement and driving ability of cars like the Porsche Taycan—but for a price that’s even less than the Tesla Model 3 in China.
When I drove the YU7, Xiaomi's crossover, I was stunned too. Its level of refinement and execution was extremely good, and that was only the second car the brand ever made.

But I would argue that the SU7 is arguably even more impressive than what I experienced with the YU7. Earlier this year, I got to spend a full day behind the wheel of the recently updated SU7 sedan while on a trip to China for the Beijing Auto Show. In short, both cars are great, but driving SU7 made me realize just why the car has been such a sales hit in China. Since its introduction, Xiaomi has shifted more than 380,000 units in China.
The SU7 has had a thorough overhaul, with updates to the chassis, powertrain, interior, and suspension. Now, I don’t have a point of comparison for the old car, but I think the new one is excellent.
The unit I have on test in the video above is an SU7 Max, which means it’s got a dual-motor setup (powered by Xiaomi’s own electric motors), good for 680 horsepower. This is fed by a 101.7 kWh battery. Xiaomi said it can go up to 519 miles on a charge, although that’s on China’s CLTC cycle, which is city-biased and more optimistic than EPA estimates.
Still, the SU7’s road manners are excellent. The car is both smooth-riding and engaging to drive, which is hard to do. Just like Ford’s CEO said after he tested the SU7 for a while, I didn’t want to give the keys back.
Xiaomi wants to enter Europe soon, and it's likely to lead that push with the SU7. As you can see from the video, if Xiaomi brings the SU7 to Europe as is, I think they’ll have a hit.
