An Austin woman argues that her city’s charging infrastructure makes it easy for her to own a Tesla. Here are some other features that stand out to her two weeks into ownership.

TikTok user Paty (@patyguajardoo) lives in Austin and recently purchased her Tesla. She discusses what she likes about it and why she thinks Austin is a good fit for electric vehicle owners in a video posted earlier this week.

“I’ve had my Tesla for two weeks. Let’s talk about my favorite features,” she says to start the video.

Is Austin A Good City To Own An EV In?

First up is the charging situation. “I’m currently charging it right now,” Paty says. “I feel like people make it so complicated, and it really isn’t. There are charging ports everywhere in Austin.”

According to PlugShare, the Austin-Round Rock metro area is home to nearly 2,100 charging stations. Public options include Tesla charging stations and Level 2 and fast charging options operated by the local utility. Of course, there are also private options. Apartments.com lists 17,000 available apartments with EV charging as an amenity.

She continues, “Even in my complex that I live in there’s one. I’ll charge it overnight. I have a [Tesla Supercharger] station two minutes away, so it charges my whole car in like 10 minutes. I honestly love it. I hate pumping gas. If I had one wish, it would be to never pump gas again. No woman should be pumping gas.”

Other Reasons Paty Loves the Tesla

Paty is also a fan of the Green Traffic Light Chime feature, which notifies the driver that the light they’ve been sitting at has now turned green.

“Another thing I like is, let’s say you’re driving, you’re at a stoplight, and you get distracted by your phone,” explains Paty. “It will tell you when the light has turned green. Your car will go ‘beep, it’s green.’ I need that. If not, I have like 10 people behind me honking at me.”

Not only that, but Paty also appreciates the Tesla’s extensive safety features, including the Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, which detects approaching objects, its expansive camera system, the self-driving mode, and the convenient phone charging.

“I can open and close my car with my phone,” she says. “Guys, I had such a bad habit of not knowing where my keys were, ever. Now I don’t have to worry about that; I don’t have to carry any keys.”

Finally, she says, “No one can drive my car unless you know my pin. So every time I start the car and before you put it into drive it’ll ask you for a pin. You can’t drive my car or steal it.”

At the end of the video, she promises she’s not finished exploring the benefits of her new Tesla. “I feel like I still have so many features to explore,” she says. “I’ve only had my car for a short amount of time. But I love it. I hope I never go back to a non-electric car. So, I do recommend. Bye.”

In a statement to InsideEVs, Paty wrote, "Owning a Tesla in Austin has been a really positive experience overall. I love the performance and smoothness of the drive. It feels very different from a traditional car, and the technology really makes day-to-day driving easier and more enjoyable. The regenerative braking took a little time to get used to, but now I can't imagine driving without it."

She continued, "Charging around Austin has been fairly convenient. There are plenty of Superchargers in and around the city, which makes local driving stress free. At home, charging overnight is the most convenient, and it's great to always wake up with a full battery. The savings on gas has been noticeable, especially since I drive. Maintenance has been minimal, which has been a huge plus. Overall, owning a Tesla has been a great experience."
