The next-generation Bentley Continental, due to appear in 2018, will come with a plug-in hybrid option for the first time ever.

Bentley will borrow the PHEV powertrain from the Porsche Cayenne plug-in hybrid to electrify the Continental.

Today's Cayenne PHEV pumps out 410 HP and features a V6 engine. It's believed that this setup will be tuned for higher output before it gets stuffed into the Continental.

The next-gen Continental will share a chassis (MSB) with the next-generation Porsche Panamera. Additionally, the Continental will make extensive use of lightweight materials to drop several hundred pounds off, as compared to today's Continental.

No additional details are available on the PHEV version of the next-gen Continental at this point in time.
