The 2026 Jeep Cherokee marks a significant update for the brand, replacing its predecessor with a larger model featuring enhanced technology and a hybrid powertrain. This new Cherokee is equipped with a new 350-volt hybrid system from Stellantis, combining a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a two-motor electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. Although it lacks a plug, the system utilizes a small 1.08-kilowatt-hour battery with brake regeneration, producing 210 horsepower and 230 pound-feet of torque. Jeep claims impressive performance metrics, including over 500 miles of range, a 37 mpg combined fuel efficiency, and a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 8.3 seconds. The vehicle is built on Stellantis’s STLA Large platform, offering 30 percent more cargo space than its predecessor.

Off-road capability remains a strong focus for the new Cherokee, which comes standard with Jeep’s Active Drive I 4x4 system featuring rear axle disconnect. This system includes four driving modes: Auto, Sport, Snow, and Mud/Sand, along with “best-in-class” departure and approach angles of 29.4 and 19.6 degrees, respectively. The Cherokee boasts 8.0 inches of ground clearance and an 18.8-degree breakover angle. Although details are limited, Jeep is developing a new Trailhawk version, which will continue to feature the Quadra-Drive II full-time 4x4 system, Quadra-Lift air suspension, and other off-road enhancements, maintaining the Trail Rated badge.

The 2026 Cherokee features a retro-inspired exterior design that pays homage to the original XJ, with a blocky silhouette and U-shaped daytime running lights. Inside, the cabin offers a modern, luxury-oriented experience with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment display running Uconnect 5, along with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The interior includes a new rotary gear selector and various safety features like automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring. Optional upgrades include a 360-degree camera, heated rear seats, and a dual-pane sunroof. The 2026 Jeep Cherokee will be available later this year, with the Limited and Overland trims priced at $44,490 and $47,990, respectively, and the entry-level model starting at $38,990.
