One Tesla owner on TikTok user has potential Tesla owners wondering how convenient the vehicle might be for those who are not as technologically efficient after revealing that she doesn’t know how to use superchargers.

On Dec. 7, user @shareepage1 posted a video stating that she has no idea how to use her Tesla supercharger. “I just spent the last 30 minutes trying to figure out how to use a public electric vehicle charger,” she said. “How in the hell do I do it?”

“I'm not smart enough to have an electric car,” she stated. “I couldn't figure it out. So I'm gonna have to ask my mom if I can borrow her gas car tomorrow because I need to drive somewhere that's an hour away.”

She specified that this is specifically a problem for her as she will have to go long distances. “My home charger is not installed yet, so it only charges like 3 miles an hour, and where I'm going is like 150 miles.”

She warns potential Tesla owners that they should learn how to use the charger before they find themselves in a situation similar to herself. “If you're thinking about getting an electric vehicle, make sure someone takes you to a public charging place and teaches you ... how to use the charger because I tried my darndest and here I am with a car that's about to die.”

How To Use A Public Electric Vehicle Charger?

While it may seem complicated, using a public Tesla Supercharger is relatively user friendly, especially once individuals learn the charging sequence. Tesla’s official owner documentation states that all Superchargers are designed to work automatically with Tesla vehicles once the driver has a valid payment method set up in the Tesla app or account.

After pulling the vehicle into a stall, drivers should position the car so the charging port (on the rear left side) lines up comfortably with the cable. Tesla’s Supercharger handles include a small button on the top that users can press to open the charging port on the car. From there, the driver inserts the connector until it clicks, at which point the vehicle typically shifts itself into Park and begins charging automatically.

How To Set Up An At-Home Charger?

Tesla recommends hiring a licensed electrician or a Tesla-Certified Installer to ensure the setup meets electrical code and supports the Wall Connector’s full charging speed. According to Tesla’s home charging guidance, the Wall Connector typically requires a dedicated 240-volt circuit, often on a 60-amp breaker, which allows many Tesla models to gain around 30-44 miles of range per hour, depending on configuration.

The installation process usually includes evaluating your home’s electrical panel capacity, pulling the necessary wiring, mounting the hardware and commissioning the unit through a brief setup process that configures it to your home’s electrical load. Tesla states that the Wall Connector is compatible with both indoor and outdoor installation, and many electricians note that costs vary widely depending on distance from the electrical panel and whether a panel upgrade is required.

Once installed, home charging becomes a plug-and-forget routine. Tesla owners can simply plug the car in each night and let the onboard software manage the charging schedule. For most drivers, this eliminates almost all reliance on public charging and dramatically simplifies EV ownership.
