'Please King’: Waymo Passengers Ask Customer Support For An Adjustment. The Agent Laughs In Their Faces
“POV: Trying to fit 5 people in a Waymo on Halloween"
A group of Halloween revelers finds Waymo’s capacity limit isn’t negotiable after asking customer support for an exception that was promptly denied. Here’s why asking nicely didn’t work.
TikTok user Mums (@mums177) posted a video about the group’s Waymo struggles earlier this week. The video, which has since amassed nearly 170k views, shows friends’ attempts to bargain with Waymo customer support. “POV: Trying to fit 5 people in a Waymo on Halloween,” the on-screen text reads.
It appears that the group got the Waymo to start, but at some point in the trip the vehicle tipped off customer support that the vehicle contained more than the maximum of four occupants. “You also need to pull over the car, because we’re going to ask you guys to make some adjustments,” says the customer service representative. “You’re welcome to order another Waymo.”
Waymo Passengers Try to Circumnavigate Occupancy Limit
That’s because a Waymo can hold a maximum of four passengers. And sometimes that number goes down to three if Waymo has an autonomous specialist in the driver’s seat. If a Waymo employee isn’t sitting in it, the driver’s seat is supposed to remain empty. Waymo asks passengers to leave the steering wheel and other driver controls alone.
The passenger in the front asks if they can request an adjustment. The representative indicates that the group will have to order a second Waymo to continue the ride. “There is a maximum of four people,” the representative says.
The passenger attempts a hail mary. “There’s four people—just one of them is really overweight,” he says. The car erupts into giggles.

Even the representative let out a chuckle. “Please make it easier for us, guys,” the rep says.

Viewers React To The Halloween Waymo Hiccup
In the comments section, viewers weighed in on the group’s attempt to circumnavigate Waymo’s capacity limit.
“He ain’t come to play,” joked one viewer.
“At this point, just order an Uber,” suggested a second person.
Someone asked, “Why can’t the fifth person just sit in the driver’s seat?” In response, Mums said, “That’s against the rules.”
Another person stated, “They got cameras in there.” And that’s true: There are cameras and microphones inside Waymo vehicles, although the mics are not operational except in situations like this where customer support is alerted to an issue.
The interior cameras are used to keep the vehicles clean, locate lost items, aid passengers in emergency situations, improve the user experience and, of course, make sure everyone is following the rules. Two years ago, a Reddit user posted a similar story about being asked to pull over after Waymo detected five passengers in the vehicle.
