‘You gotta Pay Or Show Them Anything?’: Man Goes To Tesla Showroom. Then He Gets A 48-Hour Demo
Tesla still offers 48-hour demo drives, but their availability is dependent on the location of the dealership.
A man went viral for filming his free 48-hour Tesla test drive. Viewers are skeptical that this demo still exists.
On Oct. 27, TikTok user @mrballparkchaser posted a video of him showing up to a Tesla dealership to request a 48-hour test drive. The video has amassed 252,700 views as of Wednesday.
“I was here for a 48-hour demo,” said the poster to the Tesla dealership salesman before being guided to the Tesla that he drove around town for the next two days.
“Did you know you can test drive a Tesla for 48 hours—Completely free?” he wrote in the caption.
However, commenters were not convinced that this policy is as simple as the poster made it seem, with many users sharing their own experiences that contradicted what was seen in the video.
Does Tesla Really Offer 48-Hour Test Drives?
“I tried and they said they don't offer it anymore,” wrote one user.
“Crazy my Tesla place said you have to own a Tesla in order to do a 48 hour,” claimed another.
“I own a Tesla and they still wouldn’t let me,” added one commenter. “Low inventory sadly.”
“Most Tesla dealers don’t offer the 48 or 24 hour demo drives anymore due to low inventory and high demand now it’s only a standard 30 minute demo drive for those who are wondering,” wrote one individual.

However, many comments claimed they were able to successfully partake in the 48-hour test drive. “I took mine to yosemite, i didnt want to pay gas,” claimed one comment.
Tesla does indeed offer 48-hour demo drives, but their availability is dependent on the location of the dealership. Tesla’s official website has a page dedicated to demo drives, and users can enter their location to find a dealership near them that offers test drives.
Users have options to schedule a Cybertruck, Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y for either 30 minutes, 24 hours, or 48 hours, depending on the dealership. Some locations may not offer test drives for certain models or certain drive durations. If a showroom does offer 48-hour drives, it is up to the policy of that specific location and can be impacted by a number of factors, including demand and availability.
For example, the Tesla website indicates that 48-hour test drives are available in Houston but not in cities with higher demand such as New York City.
How Can Interested Customers Schedule A Test Drive?
One Reddit thread indicated that the experience drastically differs based on location.
One user indicated that the service wasn’t offered online but that they were able to receive a 24-hour test drive after speaking to a salesperson.
“Depends on the service reps/ manager and I know this sounds messed up but it also depends on how you come off ( serious or a guy who just wants to f around),” claimed one user. “I’m in Az and they don’t offer 24/48 demo drives on the website but I just asked a rep for a 24 hour with a cyber truck and they agreed!”
Another user indicated that they had a 48-hour test drive after asking in person, as it was not offered online.
“There was no option to do it online,” wrote the user. “I can see that being totally abused. I didn't even know it was an option but the sales guy saw I was on the fence so offered it the first time to convince me and the second time when I still had some questions.”
