This is the new Tesla Model Y Performance. Revealed today in Europe, the sporty version of the refreshed electric crossover comes with adaptive suspension, multiple driving modes, a higher top speed, faster acceleration, and a bunch of other improvements both inside and out.
Tesla claims the new Model Y Performance has an improved high-voltage battery pack with higher-capacity cells, which enables a WLTP-rated driving range of 360 miles (580 kilometers). That’s just 3.7 miles (6 km) shorter than the Long Range All-Wheel Drive version.
Powered by two electric motors, the Model Y Performance can sprint from zero to 62 miles per hour (0-100 kilometers per hour) in 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 155 miles per hour (250 kilometers per hour). Compared to the Euro-spec Long Range AWD version, the Performance reaches 62 mph 1.3 seconds faster and its top speed is 30 mph (49 kph) higher. Tesla did not disclose the power output.
It has 5.94-inch (151-millimeter) ground clearance, 0.62 inches (16 mm) lower than the Long Range AWD model. It weighs 4,482 pounds (2,033 kilograms), which is 79 pounds (36 kilograms) more than the dual-motor Long Range variant.
The new Model Y Performance is fitted with an adaptive suspension system that continuously changes the response depending on the road conditions and the driving style. It also has multiple modes. By contrast, the other Model Y trims have frequency selective dampers, which don’t offer selectable modes.
Outside, the refreshed Tesla Model Y Performance rocks a more aggressive body kit that includes a rear-mounted spoiler. A set of 21-inch Arachnid 2.0 wheels–the largest available on any Model Y–completes the look.
Inside, the go-fast Model Y has a larger and higher-resolution center screen compared to the other models, measuring 16 inches diagonally–up from 15.4 inches–and running on Ultra HD (UHD) resolution. But that’s not all.
Carbon fiber touches are scattered around the cabin, and the front sports seats, which come with a thigh extension, are electrically adjustable, heated and cooled. A 16-speaker sound system comes as standard in Europe.
The first European deliveries of the new Tesla Model Y will begin next month, with a starting price of roughly $72,000 (€61,990), which is $10,500 (€9,000) more than the Long Range All-Wheel Drive version. There’s no word on when the sporty electric crossover will be available in the United States.
