A man surprised TikTok users after spotting a Volkswagen ID. Buzz without a price markup. Rob (@_robdaman) uploaded footage of the find to the popular social media application, where it accrued over 23,000 views. Some folks on the application expressed their shock at seeing the VW Buzz being sold for MSRP. However there were many who thought that German EV wasn’t a smart buy, even at this price point.

VW ID. Buzz: Worth It?

Rob’s video begins with him approaching a brand new green and white Volkswagen ID. Buzz. The vehicle’s MSRP tag can be seen taped to the interior of the car’s windshield. “Let’s see how much it is. I don’t see any markup,” he says while getting closer to the EV minivan.

Following this, he zooms into the sticker to reveal the final price that the dealership is asking for the car. Indeed, the total manufacturer’s suggested retail price reveals that it’s going for $68,110.

The TikToker echoes this figure as he ambles over to the right side of the car, “$68,000,” he says. Afterward, he peers inside of the van’s interior through its slid-open right passenger door. His footage reveals a capacious cabin outfitted with light grey seats. Furthermore, his clip shows the rear cargo capacity the van offers with its third-row folded down, along with what looks like ample second-row legroom. Rob then comments on how much space there is for passengers to enjoy. “Yeah it’s nice and roomy though. Brand new, ” the TikToker remarks, giving more first-hand footage of the vehicle. A large infotainment screen is situated in the middle of the car’s dash.

Moreover, he directs his lens to the car’s ceiling, showing off its expansive panoramic glass roof. Rob then points out an additional ID. Buzz car, with a red and grey two-tone paint scheme. “They got two of them,” he comments. “I wonder why, well, they’re $68,000,” he states as his video comes to a close.

What Is a Dealership Markup?

For the uninitiated, it's an arbitrary figure that dealerships tack onto the automaker's sticker price. It's common to see on popular or limited edition cars. It's effectively an open-ended way to boost profits.

Volkswagen ID. Buzz Price

If you’re in the market for an electric minivan to haul family and friends around in, options are slim in the U.S. The Volkswagen ID. Buzz is pretty much the only option consumers have at their disposal. Sure, folks could buy a Mercedes-Benz eSprinter, Ford E-Transit, or Ram ProMaster EV. However, that would necessitate tricking the cars out with additional seating options, as they aren’t off-the-lot commuter cars.

Interest about the ID. Buzz and when it would hit the U.S. market fomented online prior to its stateside launch. Folks with fond memories of the original VW bus, a hippie icon, were excited to see its EV descendant hit the market.

But that fondness seemed to give way to incredulity as “ridiculous” dealership markups saw a limited number of these vehicles in customers’ driveways. According to Torque News, Volkswagen only moved approximately 2,000 ID. Buzz vehicles in the first quarter of 2025. By comparison, 6,000 Tesla Cybertrucks and 20,000 Kia EV9’s sold in that same amount of time.

Volkswagen ID. Buzz: Bad Value?

One Redditor who posted to the site’s r/electricvehicles thread opined on the ID. Buzz’s lack of fervent adoption in the US. They attributed the “under 2,000” Q1 figure to several factors. The first being what they perceived to be a high price point, which Rob seemingly refers to in his TikTok.

According to the Reddit user, a $70,000 price tag “irrespective of brand” is too high of an expenditure for many commuters. Furthermore, the 230-mile quoted range of the ID. Buzz is significantly lower than other electric vehicles. Conversely, a 2025 long-range rear wheel drive Tesla Model Y costs under $40,000 with incentives. Plus, drivers get a quoted 350 miles of range thanks to Tesla’s battery optimization tech.

For $10,000 more, EV enthusiasts can nab a much more powerful base model Rivian R1S. The electric SUV has an EPA quoted range of 270 miles. Moreover, InsideEVs reported on the electric SUV’s extended range capabilities. Then there’s the Kia EV9, which comes with a slew of different trim levels. Edmunds reports that folks can pay around $64,000 for the Wind trim, which comes with a quoted 280 miles of range. Similarly to the ID. Buzz, it also comes with a third row for more hauling/passenger capacities.

ID. Buzz Markups

Commenters who replied to Rob’s post echoed many of the aforementioned negative marks folks have made against the Volkswagen ID. Buzz. One person lamented the vehicle’s range, “I think it’s cool looking but seriously, $70k for 230 mile range is pathetic! Have yet to see one on the road in my area,” they penned.

Someone else just couldn’t believe that there’d be many folks who’d want to spend $70,000 on a Volkswagen car. “Since when is a VW worth 70k?” the TikToker said.

Another commenter said that they were put off by dealerships inflating the price of ID. Buzz vehicles. “I wanted to purchase one last month. Until all the dealers wanted to charge $5-10k markups. I said no thanks it was a want not a need so I’ll wait for the hype to [calm] down,” they mentioned.

Someone else shared a personal anecdote regarding the ID. Buzz, and it wasn’t flattering. “My neighbor has one, shaped like a brick and gets horrible range in the real world,” they wrote.

However, judging from this person’s comment, it seems that the markups may be regional. As this TikTok user penned, “I seen one for 55.”

Online prices for the ID. Buzz appear to vary. This Bronx, New York dealership is selling a gray and white model for $60,285. Conversely, this Linden, New Jersey seller listed a blue-and-white two tone ID. Buzz for $70,566.
