Man Checks Out Los Angeles’ New, 75-Stall Tesla Supercharging Station. Then He Sees Its Movie Theaters
"You would have thought people were fighting for the release of a brand new Labubu."
A Los Angeles man scoped out Tesla’s upcoming Tesla Supercharger Diner & Drive-In, a
charging station also packed with movie screens, ahead of its grand opening. In the clip, he showed off the automaker's cinema screens, which he says look better in real life.
Furthermore, the video he captured depicts a structure that appears to deviate a bit from previous artwork when the Tesla Diner was first announced.
The biggest draw of the Tesla Diner, however, may not have to do with its creature comforts. Rather, it's the Supercharging capabilities it offers to a population that buys more Teslas than anywhere else in the U.S.
Meet Tesla's Movie Theater/Supercharger Experience
Daniel begins his video by walking down a sidewalk in Los Angeles while he speaks into the camera. He says, “It looks like the new Tesla Supercharging station with a diner, and movie theater is open.”
Tesla Diner Design Teaser (from Investors Day 2023)
Plans for the Santa Monica Boulevard Tesla Supercharging station have circulated the internet since at least August 2023, when preliminary renderings of the diner were disseminated across the web. It gave off a retro, 1950s vibe that feels right at home in Tinseltown.
A 2023 mock-up of the design also depicts numerous Supercharging stalls along with a 24/7 open cinema that comes complete with an upstairs patio dining area. According to Forbes, the theater would allow for drive-in functionality, allowing Tesla drivers to enjoy movie clips from famous movies while they wait for their EVs to juice up.
What Does the Tesla Diner Look Like?
The TikToker was excited to check it out for himself while charging his car’s battery. Outside of the building, a person can be seen setting up a screen on a dual-pole leverage system. “The Supercharger station in Hollywood on Santa Monica Blvd. has been under construction for the past few years,” he says.

At this point in the clip, he pans the lens up to show the large structure. It’s a mostly grey and stainless steel building. A large, circular door adorns the front of the building. Above it is the Tesla company name in the brand’s trademark red font. Beneath that is the word “Diner,” sporting a similar design aesthetic in a larger font size, albeit with a dual-circular neon blue hue.
“What’s unique about it is that it features a 24/7 diner, an outdoor terrace, and also two giant movie theater screens. Like drive-in theater style," he said.
Tesla Diner Screens
He shows off the screens in question, which are hovering above each row of Supercharger stalls. Rows of the charging stations dot the parking lot. So wherever you’re parked, you’ll get to watch snippets of movies while you wait inside your EV, or enjoy them from the roof as your vehicle gets topped off.
In Daniel’s video, the snippet of the movie playing on one of the screens appears muddled and distorted. Which he says isn’t the case for folks enjoying the viewing experience in person. “The iPhone doesn’t capture the quality here, but it actually looked really sharp and clear,” he adds.
Although the Tesla Diner appears to have completed construction, he says that the establishment hasn’t had its grand opening. “It’s not open to the public yet, so I was creeping around and trying to see what I could find.”
While he says this, he includes a snippet of a popular image from the Keeping Up with the Kardashians reality TV series. The meme-worthy snippet features the billionaire influencer peeking through bushes.
Daniel employed similar sleuthing skills in order to get the skinny on Tesla’s newest charging station. The video features a look through some bushes, where he peers into one of the building’s restrooms that has its door open. “The bathrooms look nice and modern,” he comments.
He also captured a recording of the Diner’s north side screen, which appears to be playing a different video entirely. “And on the north side of the building, they have the other screen, and this side had footage of a SpaceX rocket launch,” he says.
Additionally, Daniel says he “asked a security guard when it would be open.” According to the employee, folks would get to enjoy the station “in about two to three weeks.”
He also said that there appears to be a ton of excitement around the opening day of the Supercharging station. According to him, there are throngs of people eagerly anticipating when it’ll be available to all.
“One time I went with my friend to the West Hollywood charging station and you would have thought people were fighting for the release of a brand new Labubu," he said. "With 75 charging stalls at the Hollywood location you could hope that humans will behave. But I’ll hold my breath."
Big Charging Capabilities
According to the Los Angeles Times, 75 cars will be able to power their batteries simultaneously. More importantly, the aptitude of these chargers cannot be ignored as they pack Tesla’s quicker V4 Supercharging speeds.
These chargers should allow drivers to add up to 40% to their batteries in just 10 minutes. The sheer amount of chargers available will also be a welcome relief to Southern California drivers. Plus, there's plenty to do outside of the car.
A higher number of Tesla drivers in an area means longer wait times in certain stations. At many California charging stations, commuters have reported inordinately long wait times just to plug in their cars. Take this driver’s video shared to the @i1Tesla X account, who vented their disdain at having to twiddle their thumbs waiting for an available Supercharger. He states in his clip that this has been the case at many California charging stops. And it’s an experience that made him consider selling his Model Y.
Another blogger said that Supercharging wait times are even more infuriating when planning a road trip. Often, they’ll meticulously map out an itinerary, only to have a wrench thrown in their itinerary by having to sit in their car until a stall frees up.
