Ford's Electric Vehicle Development Center in Long Beach, California is the hub for developing the company's Universal Electric Vehicle platform. We went behind the scenes to see how the company is reworking its process to produce cheaper, more competitive EVs.

Ford claims the new process will streamline software and hardware development, allowing it to lower costs and deliver more innovative vehicles. But we'll have to wait until the first UEV vehicle—a sub-$30,000 midsize electric truck—arrives next year to see if the plan works.
