The seventh-generation BMW 7 Series, which debuted in the early 2020s, is undergoing a mid-cycle refresh. This update includes exterior tweaks such as an updated kidney grille, new headlights, a redesigned badge, and new taillights. However, the most significant changes are inside the cabin, where BMW has introduced its latest Neue Klasse design elements. The interior now features BMW’s Panoramic iDrive, a pillar-to-pillar screen at the base of the windscreen, a 17.9-inch infotainment display, and a standard passenger screen, marking a first for the brand.
In the United States, the refreshed 7 Series will launch with two fully electric models and two combustion models later this year. The electric lineup includes the i7 50 xDrive and the i7 60 xDrive. The i7 50 xDrive maintains its dual-motor powertrain with 449 hp and 487 lb-ft of torque, achieving a top speed of 130 mph. The i7 60 xDrive also retains its output of 536 hp and 549 lb-ft of torque, but its top speed increases to 149 mph, and its 0-60 mph time improves to 4.6 seconds. Both models feature new battery technology with a 112-kilowatt-hour net capacity and BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology, enhancing efficiency and range.
The new battery technology allows for a maximum charging speed of 250 kW, reducing the charge time from 10 to 80 percent from 34 minutes to 28. The range of the i7 60 model has increased from up to 311 miles to over 350 miles. Pricing for the electric models starts at $107,750 for the i70 50 xDrive and $126,250 for the i70 xDrive. Production and sales of the refreshed 7 Series are set to begin in July.
