'From Hidden Gadgets To Full-On Game Changers': Richmond Dealer Reveals 'Wild' Features On EVs
“EVs come with a bunch of really cool features. I thought I’d show you some in a couple different cars today.”
A Richmond, Va., car dealer touts some cool features popular EVs come with. Recharged (@recharged.com) posted a TikTok clip showing off a Rivian R1S, Tesla Model Y Performance, Toyota Rav4 Prime, and Tesla Model X. Throughout the video, a dealership employee walks viewers through various items and attributes packed into these vehicles prospective car buyers may not be privy to.
Rivian R1S
“EVs come with a bunch of really cool features. I thought I’d show you some in a couple different cars today,” she says to viewers before showing off a Rivian R1S. She calls the vehicle the “the best third-row EV in the market right now” and cracks open the driver’s side door. Following this, she points to what looks like a white circle. It’s not just a design accent, however, but a recessed, pop-out flashlight.
Afterwards, she delineates some of the car’s other features while speaking inside of the EV’s cabin. “Another super cool thing about the Rivian is this bluetooth speaker that comes with the car,” says while pulling out the item, which is housed beneath the center console between the front driver and passenger seats.
Tesla Model Y Performance
Tesla is known for packing software-related surprises in its cars, but in the video, the saleswoman highlights a driving dynamic boost the Tesla Model Y Performance carries. “We don’t see this much in EVs, but it has track mode in it,” she tells viewers before demonstrating how to turn it on. Once inside of the Tesla Model Y, she begins interacting with the car’s infotainment screen, narrating off-camera. “We’re gonna go in, select the car in the left-hand corner. Go to dynamics, customize.”
What’s more, she explains there’s a granular level of performance tweaks folks can enable with a series of touchscreen presses. “And here you can customize your driving to your preference. You can control the stability, braking, balance, anything to your liking,” she says.
Toyota Rav4 Prime
While not an all-electric vehicle, Toyota’s Rav4 Prime does offer some fully electrified commuting. Due to its variety of driving modes, there are different ways commuters can choose the way they want to cruise, including charging the battery by turning on the car’s gas engine. “There’s a really cool feature here if you wanna come inside,” she says while pointing to the center console. “So we have this HV-EV-CHG hold. Basically, if you hold down this button, it will charge your car from the gas engine,” she says.

Green Car Reports performed some testing of the Rav4 Prime’s charge hold functionality. According to the outlet’s analysis, they speculated that “strategic use of the mode could improve” the car’s mileage over a lengthy trip.
Folks who are familiar with the BMW i3’s REx range extender may be aware of how this feature works. The small EV had a model that came with a two-cylinder gas-powered engine. Its primary functionality was to be utilized as a backup measure to provide energy to the vehicle’s battery pack. This effectively increased the car’s range but didn’t directly power the car’s wheels. That was left to the i3’s electric motors.
Tesla Model X
Towards the end of Recharged’s TikTok video, the saleswoman shows off perks of the Tesla Model X. While standing in front of the large EV with its gull-wing doors opened, she shows a keyfob shortcut on how to have them close simultaneously. “You can see here all the doors are open. If you hit this top button three times on your keys, all the doors will shut and lock automatically,” she says, demonstrating the trick in action.
Of course, it’s difficult for anyone to include all of the surprises that come with these vehicles in a single, 59-second-long post.
When it comes to the Rivian R1S, some drivers may not know that the vehicle also comes with a built-in air compressor. This way, folks can easily inflate their tires, rafts, air mattresses, or bike tires whenever they’re out camping. Additionally, it’s worth pointing out that the flashlight actively recharges whenever it’s placed inside of the driver’s door, per Rivian’s website. The same goes for Rivian’s camp speaker, which also comes with its own light for additional illumination.
