‘I Hate This Car So Much’: Woman Finally Gets Her Volvo EX90 Back From the Dealership. Then a Worker Says Something Shocking
'I lost my mind.'
A new Volvo EX90 owner is regretting her purchase after having to bring their car to the dealership twice after just two weeks of ownership. Redditor @Early_Village_8294 shared a series of posts to the site’s r/VolvoEX90 page where she opined on the problems she’s experienced with their new EV.
And when she finally picked up her car, a dealership rep told her to “try and enjoy” her new car.
In her initial post, she said these issues came as a shock. That’s because she’s driven Toyota vehicles “for 20* years” without any major problems. After becoming a parent, she said she wanted to get a car that was bigger than a RAV4 that was fully electric. So she opted for the EX90 given its battery-powered drivetrain and Volvo’s reputation for safety. Not long into owning the vehicle, however, the Redditor stated that her car wouldn’t charge at their home.
Furthermore, the vehicle did a poor job of retaining their personalized settings, and the trunk’s locking mechanism would intermittently not work. Additionally, her EX90 failed to recognize if she was holding her key, compounding her annoyances with the car. To address the “list [of problems that] goes on and on” the Redditor said she opted to bring the car in for service.
“When they [the service team] asked how I was I bluntly told them that I’m not great. Because I own a car that feels more like a chore than a pleasure to own,” the EX90 owner wrote.
She was especially miffed because the vehicle cost her more than $80,000. “Wish I had gone with the Rivian R1S. Oh well,” she stated.
The Volvo EX90 Driver’s Nightmare Continues
It appears that bringing the car in to get fixed didn’t solve her problems with the ride, however. In a follow-up Reddit post, @Early_Village_8294 shared that upon getting her car back, she was hit “with a little turtle logo” on her EX90’s dashboard. The reptile’s graphic was accompanied with a message that warned her to “drive with caution.”
What made the entire situation all the more infuriating was the fact that she was given a loaner vehicle while her EX90 was being serviced. The Redditor states she had to transfer her child’s car seat and other belongings back to the car she just bought. However, she didn’t even make it back home until she had to return back to the service center to address the reduced engine performance warning on her vehicle. Subsequently necessitating yet another transfer of her car seat and other items back into the loaner vehicle.

“The service manager tells me that they’ll have to take my car back and once again have a technician service it. I lost my mind. How am I supposed to ‘try and enjoy’ my car when I never have it? I once again transfer everything back to the loaner and head home in tears. I hate this car so much,” she wrote at the end of her post.
Commenters Speak Out
Another user in the comments section commiserated with the EX90 owner’s pain. They said that they drive another Volvo manufactured EV, the Polestar 3. According to them, “dealing with [their expletive] has become too much and [they] want out.”
And then there was another EX90 driver who echoed @Early_Village_8924’s situation. Just like her, they were placed in a loaner vehicle after their car was brought in to be serviced. Then, after removing all of their items to place into the supposedly fixed EX90, a service message populated their car’s dash. This caused them to promptly hand their keys over to the dealership and put all of their stuff back into the loaner and drive off.
Ultimately, they said that they were given a newly built EX90, and seem happy with the car. They capped off their message with: “I don’t know how long your car was out of service. But you may want to approach Volvo or your dealer for some relief or a potential trade assist into a newly built car,” they said.
Another person who replied to the same thread wrote: “I feel your pain,” and that their issues with the EX90 “became unbearable,” they said. Moreover, they believe they were sold a “flawed EX90” and “begged Volvo for a buyback” but wrote they were ultimately denied. “Volvo corporate refused to acknowledge any problem, and acted like I should be grateful,” the Reddit commenter penned.
While they acknowledged that the EX90 is “such a pleasant car to drive when it works,” they went on to say, “...the software issues are just too severe to make this car safe for a family.”
Early Volvo EX90 Reviews Are Unfavorable
Consumer Reports’ initial assessment of the Volvo EX90 highlighted a slew of issues with the EV, labeling the car as “unfinished.” The product review firm, like @Early_Village_8294 and other Reddit users who replied to her posts, found these problems to be exceedingly unacceptable given its $80,000 starting price point.
InsideEVs previously reported on the criticisms launched toward the EX90’s problems reported by Consumer Reports and new buyers of the car. Others have expressed concern over the car’s interior cabins recording them while they’re seated inside the vehicle. Furthermore, worry was shared about not being able to disable these cameras without receiving a persistent warning that their lenses are blocked. And then there was this Reddit user who uploaded footage of the EX90’s roof mounted Lidar unit destroying the lens of a smartphone camera while they recorded footage of the car.
