Cheapest Lucid Air Recalled Because The Drive Motor Wiring Harness Is Too Short

Lucid Motors is recalling certain 2024 and 2025 Air Pure EVs.
The affected EVs have a rear drive motor wiring harness that's too short. This can lead to a loss of power.
The Lucid Air Pure starts at $71,400. It's rear-wheel drive only and has an EPA-estimated range of 420 miles.

Over 1,500 Lucid Air Pure electric sedans are being recalled by the California-based automaker because they were fitted with a rear drive motor subframe wiring harness that’s shorter than the original design.

This could cause excess stress on the harness connector, which in turn can lead to reduced or complete loss of power from the rear-mounted motor. The Lucid Air Pure is the entry-level version of the four-door sedan and is powered by a single, rear-mounted drive unit.

Certain 2024 and 2025 model-year units are affected by the recall. In total, 1,539 U.S.-market vehicles are part of the recall. If something goes wrong because of the shortened harness, owners may see one the following warning messages: Drive System Warning, Contact Customer Care; Drive System Fault, Contact Customer Care; Drive System Fault, vehicle powering down in 2 minutes; Driving Power Reduced, Vehicle can be driven but performance may be limited; brake System Fault; Drive with caution and contact Customer Care immediately; Regenerative Braking temporarily Reduced; Automatic Vehicle Hold Fault, Use brake pedal to hold vehicle and contact Customer Care.

Besides one or more of these messages, drivers might encounter a loss of power.

Lucid said the original rear drive unit subframe wiring harness length design was "inadvertently shortened.” A documentation change resulted in the company ordering the wrong length wiring harnesses, the company said in the recall report published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The affected vehicles were assembled between November 29, 2023, and October 17, 2024. Lucid Motors started investigating the issue in June and identified seven instances where Air Pure EVs encountered a loss of power due to the shortened wiring harness.

To fix the problem, Lucid will replace the wiring harnesses of all affected vehicles for free.
