  • The second-generation Tesla Roadster is gearing up for a second reveal.
  • Tesla will livestream the event today, and you can watch it here.
  • Nine years ago, the new Roadster came with a list full of wild claims.

Tesla has been working on and off the new Roadster for a decade, but the sleek two-door EV is supposedly ready for prime time. Again.

Nine years ago, Elon Musk presented the second-generation sports car on stage at the end of the Semi reveal event and said that the small EV would be capable of driving 620 miles on a full charge.

The list of claims was wild—and still is, even after all these years. The bright red Roadster was touted as having a 200-kilowatt-hour battery, a top speed of over 250 miles per hour, and a zero-to-60 miles per hour acceleration of just one second.

Well, time went by, and Tesla kind of forgot about the second-generation Roadster. The company’s CEO occasionally threw fans a bone on X, claiming that the car would somehow be able to fly, and that it would be the “last best driver’s car.”

On Thursday, Tesla revealed the new Roadster during an event in Waco, Texas. The showcase featured Tesla CEO Elon Musk, plus a new two-door supercar that drove upside down, did a barrel roll, and hit 60 mph in under a second.
