According to sales data for the first nine months of 2019, Toyota's strategy of relying on hybrids pays off in Europe as sales of the group (including Lexus) increased by 3.1% year-over-year to 838,691, and hybrids were expanding at 16% year-over-year to 435,881.
Those are serious numbers as 52% of total sales were hybrids (62% in Western Europe), although the single Toyota Prius Prime (aka Prius Plug-in Hybrid) noted just 2,003 sales, which is 0.26% of the total result.
Toyota news
Prius Prime accounts for 11.8% out of the total 16,974 Prius family, which sounds much better, but it seems that there is no significant change in the near-term. It might start to change with the upcoming Toyota RAV4 PHEV... in 2021.
The hydrogen fuel cell Toyota Mirai is at 220 sales over nine months, which speaks for itself.
