World’s Top 10 Selling Plug-In Electric Cars – January 2015

Thanks to the hard work over at EV Sales Blog, we have an outlook of plug-in car electric sales around the world.
If we look at January 2015, the total worldwide sales of all kinds of plug-in electric cars increased some 60% year-over-year to roughly 24,000.
Japan was the leading maker in January 2015 with two best selling models in two basic categories – all-electric cars and plug-in hybrids.
Nissan LEAF sits at almost 3,500, while Mitsubishi Outlander approached3,000.
Third is the Chinese BYD Qin, with Tesla Model S on the tail and BMW i3 in the Top 5.
Brand rank loosk almost exactly the same, but a higher number of models jumps Volkswagen into third place.
EV Sales Blog notes that the advantage of Japanese manufacturers is slowly eroding. Well, US makers are loosing share too. On the other hand, Germany and China are moving up quickly.

Japan – 32%
Germany – 22%
China – 21%
USA – 14%
France – 5%
Comparing with the 2014 ranking:
Japan – 38%
USA – 24%
China – 17%
Germany – 11%
France – 6%
And the All-Time ranking:
Japan – 43%
USA – 25%
China – 11%
France – 9%
Germany – 7%”
