Watch Tesla Model X P100D Smoke Chevy Corvette Z06

It’s no contest.

Not even close.

More Tesla Racing – Tesla Model 3 Smokes Ford Mustang

The sad Chevy Corvette Z06 is simply no match for the big three-row electric SUV.

The 1/4-mile race takes place at the Palm Beach International Raceway, site of most of our posted Tesla racing videos.

We’d like to say the Tesla Model X P100D wins this one due to its launch capabilities that stem from its AWD setup, but the Corvette Z06 doesn’t seem to spin its wheel at launch, so the AWD advantage isn’t why the Model X wins here.

It’s gotta be its pure grunt then. This version of the Model X weighs some 5,531 pounds, yet it zips from 0 to 60 MPH in 2.9 seconds, which is more than quick enough to put the Z06 behind it in a flash.

Tailing from the get go, the Corvette simply can’t catch up before the 1/4-mile comes to an end.

Meh……..
Another drag.

Why do the gas cars always seem to do better towards the end?

They’re geared that way, but most importantly in an ICE, HP and Torque is located at the higher RPM’s.

Some say Tesla needs a gearbox/second gear. I say boo to that. The car is perfectly fine the way it is as a 4door Family sedan.

Yup. What’s the point of high acceleration beyond about 70 MPH? It’ll just get you ticket faster. In fact, speed limit in Los Angeles freeway is only about 15 MPH.

Cars designed to accelerate to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds were not designed with practicality in mind either.

Some of the on-ramps and merge-lanes are incredibly short around LA … 1/8th mile or less. Take a look at 34.0751665,-118.2318352 in street view and tell me you don’t need to be able to get to freeway speed ASAP.

re-gear the Z06 and tune for lower end. Then its a race it will probably win. The Tesla is AWD and has all of its power available instantly.

Based on the sound of it, it doesn’t sound like the ZO6 launched particularly hard. It didn’t even warm up its tires effectively on the pre-stage.

I’d like to see the Tesla and Corvette on a road course. Ten laps. Let’s see those tires handle 5,531 of weight. 😉

You will have to wait for Roadster 2.
Which should be called the Tesla Targa. T2 for short.

Or 0-200

It’s batteries would be pooched long before that.

Ok, let’s look at the realities of both types of vehicles. First off, the Tesla. Instant torque using all 4 wheels is going to make for absolutely killer and consistent launches, plain and simple. Corvette — Large amount of low end torque as well but very traction limited. They driver clearly launches the car for the grip he has. When more grip is available that Corvette would be able to launch much harder… Still, not as hard as the instant AWD torque of the Tesla however it would have made the race look a lot different at the 1/4 mile mark. The Corvette was reeling in the Tesla… Fast. Someone asked why the Tesla was getting reeled in. 2 reasons, gearing is one however the Corvette’s power to weight ratio is much better. Every HP in the Tesla needs to move 9.4 Lbs compared to 6.2 lbs with the Corvette. Some of you might be saying “what about the torque!” Torque is awesome, torque is the amount of work being done and the Tesla has over 900Lbs of it… On paper the Corvette only has 650 Lbs however it also has gearing and since torque is multipled through gearing it’s… Read more »

If you gave me the Tesla for free, I’d have it trailered to a Chevy dealer and trade it in on a new ZR1 or ZL1.

Funny, I’d do the opposite were the Corvette given to me..

Absolutely. Z06 in my garage right now. No it’s battery won’t be useless in 7 years.

looks to me like the Z06 was late getting off the line. in fact, the distance the Tesla was ahead by was directly proportional to the distance it traveled before the Z06 started going. no doubt the tesla produces some amazing off the line acceleration, but anyone being objective can see that even though the Z06 was late getting going, it was catching up, and doing so quickly.

Seems like the zo6 was playing with the Tesla. Off the line and MAYBE would take the z06 on the 1/8 but after the 1/8 mile the zo6 would over take the Tesla before the 1/4 mile.

Anyone who likes cars could care less it’s not even a gas car ur a kuckel head for even writing this long live petral!

Yes. Electric cars were the next best thing a hundred years ago, and they still are.

The 0-60 for the vette is 2.9 seconds with the 8 speed auto. This driver failed or had a manual tranny.

He says the “sad” Corvette. Sad Tesla is what he meant to say. Damn taxpayer funded, debt laden garbage company.
