Watch How To Properly Apply HOV Stickers To Tesla Model 3

If you live in California (and a handful of other states), these HOV stickers are highly desirable, so why not learn the right and paint-safe method of application.

These stickers are designed to stay put, but if they ever have to be removed, paint damage is possible. There’s a method to prevent this possible damage though.

OCDetailing presents this video to show proper HOV sticker application on a Tesla Model 3, though this method can be used on any electric car.

Easier to steal.

Thieves don’t know you have your sticker on Xcel.

It’s really too bad that stickers in California issued before 2017 will no longer be good starting January of 2019. You would think they would have just cancelled plug in hybrid stickers or something. I need to remove my stickers soon.

There’s a clause in the Bill AB 544 that states below…

“The bill would make certain existing identifiers valid until January 1, 2019, would make certain identifiers issued on or after January 1, 2019, valid until January 1, 2022”

https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=201720180AB544

So I read that as my WHITE (and Green) sticker that was supposed to expire on Jan 1 2019 will now expire on Jan 1 2022.

Maybe IEV’s can do an article to clarify this.

Here’s the info, straight from CARB. New stickers will be red. Green and white truly expire on Jan 1, 2019.

https://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/carpool/carpool.htm

https://ww2.arb.ca.gov/resources/fact-sheets/californias-clean-air-decals

Which is the dumbest thing, all they had to do was expire green stickers and extend white stickers. And what’s worse is that they want to have only new cars get valid stickers which means we will see plugin hybrids allowed while older zero emission vehicles are no longer allowed. What the actual heck are they trying to achieve here ? Also California rebate of $2500 you are ineligible if you bought already two electric cars since January 2015, I.e. replacing your 2015 eGolf with a tesla model 3 after having replaced your other Gas Car with a tesla already. This is all so messed up.

You have to remember that the whole reason for HOV lanes is not to ease your way through traffic, it’s to reduce emissions by encouraging ridesharing.

In that vein, the vehicles that get the HOV stickers are NOT alternative-fuel vehicles– they are emissions-reducing vehicles of which the majority are PHEVs and BEVs. In the case of emissions reduction PHEVs qualify just as much as BEVs.

Note also that alternative-fueled vehicles such as low-emissions CNG vehicles ALSO qualify for the white sticker, for the same reason.

I think the entire clause is a loophole that allows current white stickers till 2022. Note the word “EXISTING”.

“The bill would make certain existing identifiers valid until January 1, 2019, would make certain identifiers issued on or after January 1, 2019, valid until January 1, 2022, and would make other identifiers issued on or after January 1, 2019, valid until January 1 of the 4th year after the year in which they were issued, as specified.”

Now the beginning of the clause has 2 segments…

“The bill would make certain existing identifiers valid until January 1, 2019,”

And…

“would make certain identifiers issued on or after January 1, 2019,”

Both joined to be inclusive by the comma which means both will be “valid until January 1, 2022”.

LOL

Yeah, i don’t have to worry about the stickers no more. Some fool with an old gasser crashed into me so the back bumper is gone.

I don’t really understand the point in letting EVs is the HOV Lane. Better for the environment to let an ICE vehicle use the lane. EVs do well in stop-n-go traffic thanks to regen.

The ICE do use the lane all the time, you just have to have 2-3 people in each car.

+1

Eh, I lease my PHEV/BEV. I don’t care if they expire whenever.

Very useful video!

I did this two weeks ago. My stickers are now coming off of the paint protection film. Any suggestions? Film over them?
