The Hyundai IONIQ Electric’s debut is fast approaching – second half of the year in U.S. (think September), and in October for Europe.

All those awaiting to go electric with Hyundai can now set one of the following high resolution wallpapers – many featuring obligatory windmills stalking the EV in the background (don’t they always in PR shots?).

The strong point of IONIQ (details on the various models here) is its conventional look with grille-less front, which draws attention; although our bet is that previous “Wallpaper Wednesdays” featuring the BMW i8,  Tesla Model S and even the Rimac Concept_One will ultimate see more desktops.

Pricing in the UK recently was announced from £28,995 ($38,500 USD). Our expectation is that the plug-in Hyundai will be priced from around $30,000 in the US when the MSRP is announced in a couple weeks.

Is it just me, or does that silver grill make the Ioniq look completely FUGLY?

Quite fugly, yes.

They could at least color match it to the car’s white body, sheesh.

It looks as unpleasant to use the rear view mirror as the Volt.

I am not sure why people complain about the grill or lack of a grill. The grill is useless on an electric car. Tesla has moved away from the grill and there seem to be a lot of complaint on that as well. So what do people want? A useless grill that does nothing except create some wind resistance or an arrow dynamic front end that will only help increase mileage?

The future is here and things are changing. Hopefully for the better.

I don’t like how they make a non-grill look like a grill used to be there. I think everybody knows that it doesn’t need a grill. Why not make it blend in better?

It reminds me of the Motorola flip phone. It had a cosmetic antenna because people were so accustomed to phones having an antenna that the marketing department said it wouldn’t look right without one. Of course now it seems ridiculous to have an external antenna. I guess just give it time.

I don’t think those air pockets for the license Plate & marker lights are necessarily doing it any good visually or aerodynamically…

I like the ‘grille-less’ front but don’t like the indent that emphasizes the ‘fender scoops’. I just don’t get what these manufacturer’s designers are thinking, fender scoops are the antithesis of a sleek, aerodynamic design. I’ve had a Tesla wallpaper for quite some now and these FUGLY shots from Hyundai are NOT replacing them. Nor will I be buying a Hyundai IONIQ if that’s the best they can do for aerodynamic design.

Ah no grill since no air is sucked in and polluted like other cars even hybrids.

It looks like an early 21st Century Electric Car. Very transitional. The sleeker, more organic-inspired vehicles are coming…
