Polestar, after being acquired by Volvo, will be offering improved plug-in hybrid models (along with improved ICE) and one of them will likely be the new XC90.

The plug-in hybrid Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine is already the most powerful Volvo XC90 in the line up, so Polestar probably will make it even stronger.

The Polestar edition of XC90 T8 Twin Engine isn’t yet confirmed, but “it’s one of the models under discussion“.

Quick specs of the Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine (which just arrives to the US public this month):

  • 2-litre, 4-cylinder Drive-E engine on the front (318 hp and 400 Nm) with 8-speed automatic gearbox and on the rear electric motor (60 kW / 82 hp and  240 Nm)
  • 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.9 seconds
  • 9.2 kWh battery pack
  • over 40 km / 25 miles of all-electric range (NEDC)

The rear electric motor could be done on many models of SUV/CUV.

Make the battery bigger and the motor more powerful, make the engine and rest of the drive train smaller and lighter. Sounds good to me.

Unfortunately, per my local dealer, all of the allocated XC90 T8 versions are sold. They do not plan to determine the next USA allocation until March!
