As predicted by us, the Volkswagen XL1 continues to be recognized for its truly exceptional design.

This time it’s the UK’s Designs of the Year awards who selected the VW XL1 as the winner in the Transport category.  So, officially, the VW XL1 is Transport Design of the Year in the UK.

But it doesn’t end there.  As the Transport category winner, the XL1 will now compete against the winners in the other categories (Architecture, Digital, Fashion, Furniture, Graphic and Product) for the title of Design of the Year 2014.

The overall winner will be announced on June 30, 2014.

Klaus Bischoff is lead designer for the XL1, a limited production vehicle that boasts the highest fuel efficiency rating of any road-legal production vehicle.

Not a VW fan but that is a great design.

I’d echo the sentiment that the XL1 is a worthy winner when it comes to new/fresh automotive design.

…if someone gave me one of those, I would certainly be happy to drive it around

Jay, but if you had to buy one… that would be out of the question!

It reminds me a bit of the Audi A9 concept.

Yup. Right up there with the EV1. Now if only someone would make a serious attempt at selling cars like this.

Imagine if BMW put a two seater body like this on the i3 chassis, instead of that loaf-of-bread, soccermobile thing.

How do you see behind you? Video camera?

wouldnt exactly call that “good looking”

Most cars look like furniture, or buildings. This is form following function. What would it mean to say dolphins are not “good looking?”

This is a good example on how awards and what people want to buy, do not go hand in hand!

I just wish I could buy one. It seems they are not for general sale which is unfortunate.
