Volkswagen Partners With SNAM to Recycle EV Batteries in France
FEB 20 2014 BY MARK KANE
SNAM (Société Nouvelle d’Affinage des Métaux) recently announced that it signed a partnership agreement with Volkswagen Group France to recycle hybrid and EV batteries from the group’s lineup (Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, ŠKODA and Volkswagen Utilities).
Both NiMH (from hybrids) and lithium-ion (from EVs) are mentioned in the recycling effort.
The French company has two recycling factories, one in Saint-Quentin-Fallavier (Isère) and the other inViviez (Aveyron). SNAM signed a similar deal with Honda last year.
“Through this agreement, SNAM (a subsidiary of Floridienne Group) will be responsible not only for dismantling and recycling, but also the collection of batteries from electric and hybrid vehicles (NiMH and Li-ion). The NiMH and Li-Ion batteries will be treated in compliance with European environmental standards.”
