Watch The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Unveiling, Details – Videos

The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 premiere (see details) was one of the largest events at the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours D’Elégance this year.

Well to be fair, the concept EV is almost six meters in length…so it would be hard to find something larger (points for the pun?  No, nothing? …moving on).

Some folks commented on the debut, speculating that the front (or “frunk”) is big enough to be able sleep in; but whether or not there actually is cavernous space enough to take a nap under that bonnet remains unknown, as Mercedes didn’t show off anything inside the land yacht.

What we can tell is that the four-motor powertrain, with 550 kW of output, seems to be taken from the Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive, presented several years ago.

Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 spec:

  • 500 km (310 miles) NEDC or over 200 miles (320 km) of real world/EPA driving
  • 80 kWh battery
  • 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in less than 4 seconds
  • 250 km/h (155 mph) top speed
  • four electric motors with a total of 550 kW peak output and all-wheel-drive
  • charging happens at up to 350 kW DC (CCS Combo)! Five minutes replenish energy for 62 miles (100 km)

Wow! Is super eficient…Nope.

I don’t like it, it looks like a converted ICE. It looks like Mercedes styling is stuck in the 20th century. Maybe they need to retire some of their old guys and refresh their design team.

a two-seat car that is nearly 6 meters long with virtually no space for luggage. is it possible to design a car in a more space inefficient way? you just have to write this one off as being a “concept car”, albeit not a particularly good concept.

What’s with the huge grill in the front?? Yes I know electrics need some cooling but that thing reeks gas car. Also, no room in the passenger compartment, roof is too low. Oh well it’s just a concept designed by someone that usually designs ICE vehicles.

I like the fast charge specs though.

in a car, the front grill is part of brand identity. maybachs tend to have a vertical grill as opposed to the horizontal pattern used in the mercedes-benz line. the current maybach is a stretch version of the benz-o, but while it appears to have a horizontal grill pattern, a vertical grill pattern sits behind.

Seriously! That Grille is better than most gas car grilles!

It looks like a driving prison cell!

At least this grill doesn’t have a huge ghetto logo in neon lights on the front of it. It’s a huge improvement in class.

The grill shape reminds me of the Cheshire Cat’s smile.

@Rich – Way to inject some racism into the thread.

You’re awesome, mate.

I’m sorry you took it that way. It certainly was not my intention.

mercedes-benz knows how to make luxury cars, after all, they make the s-class, the world’s most desirable production luxury car. but when mercedes-benz attempts to branch into sporty cars, their effort less than impress. the same can be said for this car – not particularly impressive.

Not really, the MB S class has been thoroughly upstaged by the Tesla Model S which now outsells it in US

and on the brink of outselling it in Europe http://left-lane.com/car-sales-europe/car-sales-segments/limousine-segment/ !

To stay real : US is not a world market. And US propaganda doesn’t work in the rest of the work. It’s good to stay patriot to your country. But don’t swallow what is published.

Congrats MB on building a car that will never come to market and looks like Captain Nemo’s car from the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen!

AnswertoStupidGarbage

all spec even worse than a 2009 Tesla Roadster

And this is just a concept car

WTF!!!!

Ben you must be one of the designers. I don’t get Diamler making such a huge car with a superfast charger but a dinky battery. One of my pet peeves with a BEV is that, if the battery is too small, you constantly have to be on the lookout for somewhere to plug in, and its added work for your trip. That’s why I bought a Roadster years ago, you could safely go over 200 miles with its 53 kwh battery – I wouldn’t consider anything smaller even at the time. Now this what has to be hugely expensive thing doesn’t have any better range. Even the upcoming low cost BOLT has 60 kwh, the same as Tesla’s economy X – and if it can go far in an “X”, it can go way farther in the much more efficient Bolt. But this car can only refrigerate 2 bottles of Champaigne! If it were me, I’d put 200 kwh of batteries in it and not worry about 350 kw charging – something I’ll never see around here anyway since there is no one who would pay the electric bill. These things have to reach a critical mass. You have to… Read more »

I have to say, I do love the red metalic paint job, and the grille, reminding me of a 1967 mercury cougar (the fancy mustang).

But the rear end looks like a tesla S going backwards.

I also like the portion of “Black Bottom Stomp” they played but they didn’t play the rest of Jelly Roll Morton’s cameo.

You’d think that since this is a Diamler product they’d introduce it with a Crazy Otto tune, or a Deutche Grammophon artist.

A car for those that want to shout “I’m compensating for something”.

WTF is that? The visibility from that car has to be AWFUL.

And that grille! That grille! Why is it so HUUUGE!?!?!

What were they thinking?

Wait . . . I get it. This is a police car and the frunk is used to carry prisoners. That’s why it has those jail cell bars in front.

I think this is the “MayBalk”. Different car.

I like it despite looking really stupid! It’s bold, loud and cheeky. It demands attention. This is a thing only rich people are stupid enough to buy.

The first time I saw this vehicle, I had a negative reaction due to the long nose and limited visibility.
The more I look at it, the more I like it. “Premium” cars should push boundaries. Unfortunately, legacy “premium” automakers have become content with maximizing profits by making “me too” vehicles with polished knobs, wood trim, and huge ghetto logos. All designed to part pretentious people from their money.

The Maybach 6 actually embraces distinct boundary pushing design that would be readily identifiable as MB. It embraces new technology through electric drive. This is the first vehicle I would believe is worth $100K + from Mercedes Benz.

Could the range be better, sure. Could (insert Tesla comparison here), sure

IMO, MB have become lame and irrelevant. This is a good direction to break that stigma.
Well done.

19 1/2 feet long? Most garages couldn’t accomodate that.

it’s actually 5.7m, about 10″ longer than the current maybach. if you could afford this car, you don’t have a regular garage.
