Video: Tesla “Recharge” Commercial

Tesla Motors doesn’t advertise in the traditional sense.

"Someday You'll Tell the Next Generation That We Were the Ones Who Changed the World"

“Someday You’ll Tell the Next Generation We Were the Ones That Changed the World”

But that doesn’t mean that Tesla commercials don’t exist.

Here’s a Tesla commercial, though it’s “customer-driven,” says the automaker via its Facebook page:

“Another amazing customer-driven Tesla “commercial”. How many other products inspire people to make ads?”

This commercial, directed by Keith Rivers, is titled “Recharge” and is as close to professionally done as possible given what we suspect was a limited budget.

Actually, we think it would be tough for Tesla to one-up this one.

doesn’t work for me.

Me either.

It sort of implies that Tesla might be revolutionary, but it completely fails to illustrate how or why.

I agree and I can’t connect to the message of taking my $80K+ luxury car out on dirt roads to go camping into the night and “recharge”. And no, the simple mention of the word “recharge” doesn’t convey that the car is a 100% all electric revolution. I do really like the narrator’s voice though and production quality gets a thumbs up. Nice first try. Please make another one that drives home the message of Tesla’s goal to create and implement workable sustainable automobile transportation and disprove misconceptions of all electric vehicles to mainstream consumers.

Hey “RECHARGE!” is MY tagline! 🙂 – Has been for years now. Nice ad piece though. Very well done! In answer to your assertion that it would be hard for Tesla to one-up this ad, I tend to disagree. Yesterday I commented that Tesla could really benefit from a groundbreaking, game-changing TV spot like Apple’s famous “1984” spot run during the 1984 SuperBowl. Some say, and even in Steve Job’s biography – state that ad most probably put Apple on the road to becoming what it is today. I call Tesla, “The Apple of Autos” and I believe it can be to the car industry what Apple is to the electronics industry – namely, MUCH LARGER in the game than it currently is. For that to happen, Tesla could speed up awareness in the public consciousness with a “DOWN WITH OPEC, DOWN WITH ENERGY LOBBYISTS, DOWN WITH BIG OIL, DOWN WITH POLLUTION!” ad that literally nobody else could afford to do, or just plain cannot do. BMW, GM and NISSAN are Infernal-Combusted, Truck, SUV, CUV and sedan companies. They make their profits by selling 19th Century oil burners. There is no indication they have any intention to change that any… Read more »

P.S. Tesla? Yes, I’ll make that world-changing commercial if you pay me.

I know I can – esp. with the proper resources at my disposal.

Here is the world-shaking 1984 Apple Superbowl commercial.

Apple broke the bank to get this ad produced and placed
during the Superbowl. It famously paid off in spades!

In case you’re a youngster, the “establishment” was IBM, Microsoft
and DOS.

At the time, Microsoft was still an Apple business partner, so big-brother in that ad personified IBM:

Now he just personifies the Obama administration. 😉

“Today, we celebrate the first glorious anniversary of the Information Purification Directives. We have created, for the first time in all history, a garden of pure ideology—where each worker may bloom, secure from the pests purveying contradictory truths. Our Unification of Thoughts is more powerful a weapon than any fleet or army on earth. We are one people, with one will, one resolve, one cause. Our enemies shall talk themselves to death, and we will bury them with their own confusion. We shall prevail!”

Nice. Too bad it can’t get wider play.

I notice a lot of the cars for EV’s are sort of boring with them talking about think of our children or global warming. I would really love to make a commercial for a electric car it would be so funny and it would get to the point about why people hate going to gas stations and it would make fun of pollution and peak oil. It would start out with a a group of people in a gas powered car on a car pool the first guy in the car would be the driver the driver of the ice car the regular citizen. The next guy next to him in the front seat would be a big fat guy with a cigar smoking filling the car up with a heavy oil smell and he would be really filthy and be slapping the driver around and throwing trash all over the car in the from of smog and leaking oil all over the car. The next thing in the gas car would be a giant giant gas pump hose with the gas pump head on it but it would be slitting around the car and strangling the driver while he… Read more »

No sir, I didn’t like it.

Quite professional feel and indeed we are changing the world.

So… Teslas are for hipsters who go camping in the desert and burn wood?
