Smart Canada decided to rent out a scenic downtown Toronto rooftop parking structure to demonstrate something most electric vehicle owners already know.

Thanks to instant torque, electric cars have a lot of quickness of the line and can surprise aggressive traffic light competition  – no racing prowess needed.

In the above video the smart ForTwo Electric Drive takes on a “Olympic sprinter and a sports car” over what seems to be about about 150 feet of pavement.

Surprisingly (or not), the 63 mile, 2 seat plug-in from smart-Daimler, with 96 lb-ft of torque finishes dead last just ahead of both the runner and the Porsche Boxster.

Smart can be charged using solar power, where as sprinter needs slaughtered pigs in order to run. So which one is using more energy?

It was not said if Kickdown mode was used which is basically sport mode, and there is a big difference in acceleration times, about 2 seconds

Wow, I didn’t know the Smart ED had kickdown mode, thanks EV.
