Video: DeepFlight Super Falcon Electric Underwater Airplane




The DeepFlight Super Falcon underwater airplane is the work of marine engineer Graham Hawkes.

Hawkes designed the machine to look as though it belongs in a James Bond film.

It’s a fully submersible 2-person sub with an 8.8-foot wingspan and the ability to go down to a depth of 1,600 feet.

DeepFlight is claimed to positively buoyant, which means that if its electric motors fail or if it crashes, it floats back up to the surface rather than sinking to the bottom of the sea.

The big draw of DeepFlight is its near-silent electric propulsion system, which doesn’t scare sea life away.

If DeepFlight interests you, then you’re probably wondering how much it costs.

To buy one outright it’ll cost a cool $1.7 million.  However, you charter one for $10,000 per day or if you’d prefer driving it yourself, then a 3-day $15,000 class will get you certified, then you can rent one and pilot it, too.

Billionaire Richard Branson owns one.  No surprise there.  What doesn’t the man own?

I’ve often wondered if the high pitch of the electric motor drives wildlife equally crazy.

How many years before we can get one that’s affordable? Looks like fun if I had that kind of money.

This is a 1%er’s vehicle. 😉
