BYD recently released one of its most interesting videos on quality and tests applied to achieve high quality.

“What makes a BYD car? We believe quality is the keystone of innovation, hundreds of thousands of grueling test miles will tell.”

The video contains unique shots from lab and track tests of different vehicles, but for us of course EVs like BYD’s electric bus are most important.

Besides BYD ebus and e6 cars, we find something on lithium-ion batteries, which the Chinese company says are produced on a fully automated line.

As it turns out, some of BYD cells immediately after birth go to hell where they roast at 1000°C.  Some others get 100 tons to hold for awhile.

Similar tortures are applied for plug-in hybrids and conventional vehicles.

I have always pronounced BYD as one word and not three letters. It’s not until now I really go the name…

Bee-Why-Dee (BYD) = Bee-Em-Vee (BMW)

Or at least similar enough 😛

I always thought of “BFD”.

BFD?

Mikael, it’s short for Big F-ing Deal 🙂

You may say that, but what does Warren Buffet and Stanford say? We rode their first BYD bus and it was amazing. They are partially made with solar power near LA.

This company is the future of transit and transportation, just look to their recent 2,000 bus and 1,000 taxi sale.

I hope BYD’s quality is better than the filmmaker’s; at 0:27, it says “BYD Starts wtih PEOPLE”
