Following the reveal of the refreshed Tesla Model S, well-known Tesla tuner Unplugged Performance set about creating a front fascia upgrade for 2012 through May 2016 Model S electric cars.

The result is a front fascia that closely resembles the look of the new S. So, owners of older Model S EVs now can have an upgrade option that will make their cars look like the new, refreshed S.

As Unplugged Performance states:

“The Refresh Fascia provides previous generation Model S owners an opportunity to experience that new car feeling once again. The new look follows Tesla’s new nosecone-free aerodynamic design and features an integrated front spoiler. This distinctive front spoiler amplifies the performance identity of the car and distinguishes it as a premium version, consistent with the ethos of all Unplugged products.”

“To ensure the success of this new project, Unplugged has leveraged their extensive R&D and experience and taken a multi-pronged approach to development. First, a prototype was fitted on Unplugged’s 2015 spec Model S P85D for multiple weeks of successful Autopilot testing as well as earlier models to test parking sensors and earlier vehicle fitment. Second, the company utilized the latest in 3D scanning technology to precisely reproduce the prototype bumper and the car for further dialing in of the finalized design. Finally, Unplugged’s designers have worked in conjunction with real world and digital data to develop a final cutting edge, sporty design that checks all the boxes.”

Unplugged Performance is now taking reservations for the front fascia upgrade. The product is cheaper than you might think. Price is just $2,995, or 2,495 if you place your order prior to July 1, 2016. A deposit of $300 is required to get the ball rolling and Unplugged Performance ships worldwide.

Unplugged Performance adds:

“All buyers will receive the full system which is guaranteed to be compatible with all Tesla Model S vehicles from 2012 until May 2016. Shipments are targeted to begin by end of summer 2016.  Multiple reservations for customers are not allowed, nor is reselling reservations.”

Not bad, if you want to keep up with the latest…

Why do I want the front of my car to say “Unplugged”?

Any warranty issues?

Especially with the radar sensors, will they still work as intended?

The radar sensors will work as intended as long as you don’t encounter a flat bed trailer or a stopped cargo van. 😉

Any effect on Aero?

How are they licensed to make products with the Tesla logo?

Their factory is next door to Tesla, so I imagine the necessary permissions are in place.

I’m not exactly sure why Tesla isn’t doing this for themselves. Surely there’s a lot of profit in it for a company that’s already making the parts, and cars that are stylistically future proof would be in keeping with their current exceptional policies.

A lot cooler if it comes painted and ready to simply bolt on.

Still a bit pricy for what it really costs to make, bumper covers like this are always just a few hundred dollars at most.

You can also make a few bucks selling the old bumper.

This starts to make a CPO car more attractive to me. I always hated the nose cone, but I don’t think I’d shell out $ for an S60 if I can get a 85 for less and put a new nose on it.
