Registrations of new plug-in electric cars in UK exceeded 7,000 in March for the first time (one of the two months of bi-annual plate change), reaching a record high of 7,144 – good for a 1.38% market share.

The growth year-over-year stands at 17%.

The majority of registrations in the UK are still of the PHEV variety (4,803 – good for 14% growth), while BEVs noted 2,341 new tallies, and a 23% increase compared to previous year.

The great March performance helped to push sales past the 10,000 mark in the first quarter, and expand the total plug-in fleet in service to some 60,000 vehicles.

From April, the UK will return back to more ordinary sales results, but hopefully still reaching at least the 2,000 level.

Record after record after record… Plugins are really coming strong! Of course, once the Bolt and the Model 3 is out this will look like peanuts.

Can someone explain why March and September sales are so much higher in the UK?
What is “bi-annual plate change”?

The first 4 alphanumerics change twice a year. They are showing off being the first to get vehicles with the new numbers.

Does any one have more detail on the leaf? Sales increasing? 30 kWh making any difference?

Sales from Nissan are not online yet, only Jan-Feb:

But in the past Leaf was about half of all EV sales in UK, so March Leaf will be around 1500 i think.
