UK Plug-In Electric Car Sales Increased By 37% In April

MAY 18 2018 BY MARK KANE 7

After the record result last month (in the typically high month of March), Britain notes decent growth of plug-in electric car sales in April yoo.

In total ,3,858 new registrations were noted, which is 36.8% more than year ago and at 2.3% market share (compared to 1.85% in 2018).

  • 929 BEVs (up 39 percent year-over-year)
  • 2,929 PHEVs (up 36 percent year-over-year)

Because BEV sales didn’t exceed 1,000, we believe consumers in UK aren’t showing much interest in the new Nissan LEAF (either that, or the effective price isn’t tempting).

People here keep knocking down PHEVs as if they are just ICE cars. But their sales out number pure BEVs about 3-1. There an improvement for air quality and are recharged nightly.

You mean they are an improvement for air quality IF they are recharged nightly.

Their are people who only get them to qualify for the car pool lane access in the US and I’m sure their are some Europeans who get them to get around ICE bans in city centers.

The UK at the moment has no such bans. Also in the UK they are not exempt from bus lanes or the very limited 2+ lanes. I can tell you that as someone who lives here that you often see plug in cars parked at home and almost every time with a cable going to something.

Fuel here is about three times the price of the US so it would be madness to never plug in.

Good to know, thanks.

PHEV = disgusting gas car

Pathetic numbers

“Because BEV sales didn’t exceed 1,000, we believe consumers in UK aren’t showing much interest in the new Nissan LEAF (either that, or the effective price isn’t tempting).”

European production is limited to 4,000/month.
Europe is a build to order market.
Delivery numbers in a single local market are a reflection of logistics planning.

Do you know the size of the backlog, in months?
