UPDATE: Three Country Tour on an Electric Motorcycle – Skyline Drive (w/video)
*Update: Video added to end of article
This is a big day! The plan is to ride all the way down Skyline drive in one charge. Skyline drive is a beautiful road atop the Shenandoah Mountains in Virginia making it a popular getaway for people in the DC area.
From charging station to charging station the distance is 125 miles, which is farther than I have ever ridden any electric vehicle. Fortunately, the speed limit along skyline drive is 35mph, which helps extend range since speed is the enemy of range for electric vehicles.
It was a beautiful ride and I had the chance to chat with some bikers along the way. I made it to my destination where I met up with Warren who found out about my trip from these articles – pretty cool.
Then I rode down the northern section of the Blue Ridge Parkway to Roanoke, it is mountainous and natural like Skyline Drive . I even saw 7 deer along the way which weren’t spooked by my quiet bike.
I had a quick repair to make to my side rack in Waynesboro, which required a bit of creativity, then stayed at the house of a friend of a friend. He let me charge in the front hallway.
I rode for 10.5 hours total all day on two of my favorite roads, well worth it and I even rode into West Virginia meaning I’ve gone to two more states than Terry Hershner.
