Model S P85D Rides Conducted In Montreal

Tesla Motors’ largest North American store/service center is now open.

Located in Montreal, Canada, this stores is 45,000 square feet and includes sales and service.

According to the Montreal Gazette, “the 45,000 square foot sales and service centre on Ferrier St….replaces a much smaller location in Laval that was kind of a Band-Aid solution for the market.”

Jerome Guillen, senior vice-president of global sales and service for Tesla, stated:

“We saw the customer interest increase and increase, and we were just ready to step up. I think we owed it to our customers to be able to have a location to serve them properly,” he said.

“Montreal is a very important location for us.”

“We see significant potential, especially with our new product offerings, here in Quebec and Montreal.  And we need to plan for the future. We certainly want to be able to accommodate the hundreds of thousands of cars that we anticipate having on the road in the next few years.”

Montreal Gazette adds:

“…there are only about 340 Tesla Model S sedans on Quebec roads right now — out of about 1,500 in Canada.”

As for Superchargers, Guillen says that Tesla’s goal is to have dozens installed in throughout Quebec, but notes that the process is time consuming:

“I wish we could go faster (in installing superchargers), but getting the permits for construction and the connection to the electricity (network) seems to be taking a little long.  But we will make sure all the main roads are covered.”

Canada gets a bad name – from the number one exporter of oil to the United States, to it’s ironically high gas prices, and it’s fame for fracking the *ell out of our earth to glean that crude. This gets the ball rolling for earth-friendly Canadians to do their part to keep groundwater pure, to reduce C02 – but mostly, and least-controversially, make the air our families breathe purer and cleaner for all. I’m sure savvy Canadians will start the wave of momentum in their beautiful country towards clean, fast and luxurious high tech transportation from the current 19th Century explode-and-bang system that dominates our two countries. Living in the NW, I used to think of Canada as beautiful forests, open vistas and some of the most beautiful, wonderful cities in the world. Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto being tops on the list. When Canada became a world capital for oil, those thoughts slowly eroded and were replaced with ire for a nation who seemed to go for the low branches to pick in bolstering it’s economy. James, I doubt that fraking extraction is anywhere close to what is done elsewhere as in the U.S.A. for example.
I’m pretty sure it’s more about tar sand that we have a very bad behavior.
Any one of those should stop that’s for sure.

Seconded. Two EVs parked in our driveway now and just driving home shortly with the electric snowblower.

Wise decision, about half of the electric cars sold in Canada are bought in Québec.

If green plates in Ontario give us a rough idea of total EV sales… we went from GVAA to the late GVADs… so fewer than 5k perhaps? Goal is for 10000 EVs before the rebate expires though!

Purchased a Leaf in November with license plate GVAF so that puts Ontario north of 6000 at this point.

I myself also got (another) LEAF last month…and have registered several green plates to date in Ontario over the past 4 years.

As of the last update just over 3,000 EVs have been registered through the green plate program through November 2014.

The plate extensions themselves can be tricky to come to a meaningful statistical result as they are not given out in numerical order.

As an example, I received LEAF delivery #2 in Canada in 2011 (Ontario rebate cheque number 7 of 10,000…back when they had a specific office dept that looked after that sort of thing – uptake of the program was much less than they originally thought and it was combined/dissolved) and got a GVAA 600ish plate. Whereas sometime later, and with another EV…a lessor plate extension was given.

The reason for this is plates are printed in batches then shipped out to the DMVs…originally all the plates you seen on the roads were GVAAs. The last batch must have been fairly large as they suddenly got fairly random through GVAF.

If you go to certain remote DMVs without nearby Nissan/Chevy dealers, I’m sure you could still acquire a very low, very dusty GVAA plate.
