Tesla Model X Spotted – Images

Here’s one more Tesla Model X sighting in the wild.

The passenger clearly is camera shy, or perhaps he’s trying to shield the interior of the car from the camera?

Lookin good, especially with the large turbo wheels (not shown).

    1. Steve says:

Hmmm… I cannot get used to it. I am a huge Tesla fan, but it still looks like an overweight Model S to me.

I hope they come with a surprise design change when they reveal the final design.

The door alignment looks better on these pics.

      1. bro1999 says:

        A pregnant Model S.

      2. Foo says:

The (black) wheels look too small somehow.

      3. Stimpy says:

Yep, looks like an egg. Not good at all vs. Model S1

        1. Aas says:

          What’s ugly about egg?

  2. Martin says:

Guys let’s face it. The final production model wont look like that. This is a joke of Musks to irritate the press and with that, us.
The misadjusted doors on every vehicle can only be a joke. I mean even by accident it should be aligned on some of the vehicles 🙂
I expect vehicles very different looking rolling off the assembly line in 4 weeks.

The retractable spoiler on the back of the car looks kinda cool though!

    1. Cdub says:

Haha, agreed. He’s gotta be trolling us. The alignment is so consistently obviously terrible.

Is that a retractable spoiler on the back though? Never noticed that before.

  3. Jeff Songster says:

Can’t wait to hear the actual specs and see the car. Gonna be exciting times in these next couple years.

  4. sven says:

I’m not a fan of the sloping glass back window on a CUV, as it will take away some utility when it comes to carrying large bulky items in the trunk. But it seems to be gaining in popularity with car designers seeking to improve aerodynamics and mpg/AER ratings.

This body style for CUVs, as found on the Model X, BMW X5, Honda Crosstour, and Acura ZDX, will soon be found on an upcoming Toyota subcompact CUV. These spy shots show the slopping glass back window under a tent-like camouflage covering.

I’d be willing to give up a few mpg and/or AER to get the full utility of the space currently wasted.

      1. Aas says:

        Buy a VAN

    2. Dave86 says:

+1 on the lack of utility due to the sloping back window. I recent hauled a dish washer in the back of my little SUV, and a sloping back window would have been a problem.

I also don’t like the falcon doors. As a skier, having a normal roof rack is a nice thing since it will support a sky box to put skis in.

Tesla laid a real egg with some of these features on the Model X. Hopefully they won’t repeat these stupid mistakes with the Model 3 CUV, which I’m seriously considering.

  5. Michael says:

The gaps on the rear door still look bigger than they should be. Really hope this works out well for them. Love the design and the fact they take chances. Tired of cars that all look/work the same.

  6. Koenigsegg says:

Man you guys are always late with these pics. These are not even the most recent

the most recent are the blue X’s with silver 22′ or 2’3 Turbines with no literally no camo

    the X is looking good

    1. Jay Cole says:

Lol, we actually have that X coming up next (noon). We just don’t like to jam one story on top of the other one…try to give each story at least an hour or so before the next comes along.

      Update (11:18am):
actually I’ll just drop the other now because you mentioned it…and people will be looking for it, so unfair to not post, heeh. I pulled your pic link just because the topic is covered better in the new piece, feel free to add it over there in the comments if you like (link below).

      1. Anon says:

Yeah, I like the bigger wheels / rims on it.

The little ones make me think “Prius” for some reason. *shudder*

  7. Stuart22 says:

Well, it looks like we’ll just have to get used to inconsistent fit with the falcon doors.

  8. Pete Repete says:

Enough!!!! Where’s the real McCoy???? This is painfully ugly – almost X6 in the beauty department.

As cool as the model S is, and I think it’s really cool, this is just a fat whale… F-, Must do better!! …. Can do better.. Should do better

  9. Foo says:

    The door is still misaligned.

    1. Anon says:

      And… It’s still a photo of a test mule. 😉

      1. Stuart22 says:

So what. Even so, the rest of the car looks fine. The sloppy fit with the falcon wing doors stands out…

Deliveries are supposedly starting in a month – it’s pretty late to still be messing around with fit & finish.

Tesla laid an egg with the X; they’ve painted themselves into a corner with these doors. I wouldn’t be surprised for them to cut their losses and throw in the towel with it, and start all over with a clean sheet of paper. In the long run, the ompany would be better off than they would be with a faulty car damaging their image.

  10. Benz says:

    Looks nice

  11. reguest says:

Doors look better to me. Not perfect, but better.

  12. flmark says:

Frankly, I have had ENOUGH of the whining about appearance from ALL the commentary over the months. By any stretch and EVERY definition, this is a UTILITY vehicle. I did not necessarily agree with Elon when he said he was making a vehicle to appeal more to females with the X, but all of the whining here and elsewhere has shown him to be apparently correct. This is NOT a Corvette, Ferrari or even a Model S. You guys start from THAT mentality and work your way to the X and then whine. Perhaps you should START from a Tahoe or minivan appearance and work in from there. In that perspective, its appearance is really quite GOOD. I expect to replace my Tahoe Hybrid with an X and I have no problems with the appearance. My current vehicle is big and boxy and not unattractive if you start from a TRUCK perspective. But if I started from a Corvette perspective and discussed its appearance…I would sound like you whiners. Shut up already. If you don’t like it…DON’T BUY IT. On the other hand, if you want to buy the first EV that can tow something, take off your sports car blinders and you get a VERY different result.

    1. Stimpy says:

Look at the other cars in this price class: BMW X5, MB GL, Audi Q7. All far better looking than this!

I’d still rather have this car, but it would be despite it’s looks, not because of them. Huge difference compared to Model S!

    2. Nate says:

Comment sections are for peoples opinions. Also, this is a story focused on the exterior appearance of a vehicle. What do you expect? No one is forcing you to read these comments. When you whine about other people’s opinions chances are you won’t change what they think or discourage them from posting. Just trying to help you out here — if it is upsetting enough to shout in all caps maybe just not read the comments.

Still, if you are interested in reading more opinions, here is mine. I am not a big fan of the Model X appearance for the opposite reason you think. I don’t want it to look like a sports car. That is the last thing I want it to look like. I honestly like the exterior appearance of your Tahoe better. As is, it looks like it has a bit of an identity crisis. There are other car/cuv models I’d say the same thing about (like the Crosstour). That is my opinion. That is not whining about it.

    Still “chunky looking”…
