Tesla Model X Passes Car Wash Test – Video

Car Wash Time

There never really was any doubt…was there?

The unique Falcon Wing doors on the Tesla Model X have been criticized and praised for various reasons, but it seems they do the job of keeping the water out at an automatic car wash.

We don’t recommend using an automatic car wash though, but that’s because of the damage done to the paint.

… and definitely not because water and electricity don’t get along, lets put that old myth long to bed.

Driving an electric car through a car wash presents no danger, just remember to not be a fool and close the windows before entering the washer.

I was under the impression that touchless washes like this one were actually what you want. I’m pretty sure that the big issue are brushes, being that the paint on Teslas is so soft.

“We don’t recommend using an automatic car wash though, but that’s because of the damage done to the paint.”

I’ve been using touchless/brushless automatic car washes for decades with no paint damage (including Volt and Leaf in the past four years). FWIW the paint on the 2012 Leaf with Aluminum doors and hatch had no trouble with road salt or auto car washes, and doesn’t seem to be an issue for other operators in my area.

Crummy Tesla finishes, mayhaps? I understand how it goes: I’ve known exotic car owners all my adult life who make excuses for poor workmanship on costly affectations… “You can’t put a Tesla through a car wash! The paint on Teslas is SO GOOD that it needs hand wash only.”

You are pretty easy to fool when it comes to believing anti Tesla rumors, aren’t you? How can one believe car paint can be damaged by a normaly operating carwash is beyond me. You like being unrealistic.

Dis I start the “rumors”? No — Tesla owners did, in the Forums. Look for yourself.

I’ve only ever taken my model x through a “regular” car wash…no issues whatsoever. paint still intact car is washed more than once a week, no big deal.

whatever it takes to make news i guess…

Have a Model X that sees the standard car wash at least once a week now for over six months and have found no problems

“We don’t recommend using an automatic car wash though, but that’s because of the damage done to the paint.”

That’s as stupid as people who tell you to change your oil every 3000 miles.

Modern cars don’t need frequent oil changes, and they handle “automatic” car washes just fine.

Wash your car with a no rinse waterless product, a bucket, a self serve spray wash booth, or a touchless or a brushless automatic wash. Just don’t tell anyone else how to wash their car…unless they ask.
