Tesla Model S P90D Wins “Go To Whoa” With Time Of 6.02 Seconds – Video


A Tesla at Canberra’s Summernats festival?

This is surely a strange sight to see as the event is geared towards super-charged V8s. For the last 29 years, this 4-day event has prided itself on noise, burnouts, and an abundance of smoke.

Fast-forward to this year and we see that Drive entered the Ludicrous Tesla Model S into the “Go to Whoa” competition. Onlookers and security guards seemed puzzled by the unexpected guest appearance.

In the chosen event, the goal is to cover approximately 100 meters of straight asphalt at top speed and then brake precisely at the end, between two lines. After a few failed attempts, the driver pulled off a 6.02-second time, which was the best time recorded by any car that day.

Event commentator, O’Halloran shared:

“To see it out on the track today was really good, and a lot of people came over to see just what it sounded like, which is basically nothing. The reaction was really good, people have seen these things on YouTube and now they want to see it in the flesh. They were all videoing themselves and you know that will go out to others on social media. It’s an interesting car in a very exciting time in Summernats history. I think to have it here has been really good, and to see what it could do – a six second time on this track is very impressive.”

I love this story. The balls on this guy. I could just imagine the `vibe’ he was getting driving an electric car, even one with the cred of a Tesla, into the lions den of oil and petrol.

The future is now, it’s here- much to the chagrin of oil-burners the world over… (sorry ICE, you’ve gone the way of the dinosaurs that you burn..)

This is why Tesla is so disruptive. EVs have the ability to provide incredible performance. Rather than considering devoted car enthusiasts to be “oily gearheads”, this company builds what they crave.

The market for great cars is pretty large. The market for smug is quite a bit smaller.

This is a structural advantage of low center of gravity from under-floor battery packs.

Assuming all other factors are the same, the lower the CM, the less rear lift you get under hard braking. The less rear lift, the more even braking you can get from all 4 tires. Now the front brakes don’t have to do all the work anymore.

Excellent points, but I will add that this is just as true under hard acceleration with AWD.

This event looks like it was made for Tesla. Just wait until Roadster 3.0…

I liked the end of the video where he was talking to the camera while the car drove itself.

He even says in the video that another car beat his time later on that weekend. So about that title…?
