Tesla Model S P85D Embarrasses Volkswagen & Audi In German Race Wars – Videos

JUN 2 2015 BY MIKE ANTHONY 30

Just tried to race a P85D… aaannnd it's gone.

Just tried to race a P85D… aaannnd it’s gone.

A Tesla Model S P85D completely blows the doors off two modded vehicles, a Volkswagen & an Audi at the…German Race Wars.

If you have an extra 27 seconds to spare, these are definitely some interesting videos to watch, as the P85D just launches lightning fast.

The other two vehicles are trying to grab traction in a desperate effort to catch up.

The German cars simply don’t stand a chance against the American-made electric monster that is the P85D.

I think oval racing gets boring. Drag racing? Fun, yes, but what German auto pedigree was built on that?

Nix

I’m not sure if the combination of “German” “Race” and “Wars” go together.

Am I the only one who thinks of old German “Master Race” propaganda and WWII when they see these words together?

Maybe just me.

Kosh

+1. I thought the same thing…..

MikeM

Nix: Not just you.

Me: Borne in U.K. at start of WWII.

Steven

Not just you.

They do have some history there.

Robert

It could be a bad translation as I don’t suppose anything in Germany for Germans would be advertised in English.

David Stone

Unfortunately it is not just you.
That was all a long time ago and possible in every country, with every nationality.

How about the evil wars England was involved in when it fought over colonies?
What about France, Russia?
What about the US overthrowing democracies and installing dictatorships? Ask the native americans about the behaviour of ‘Americans’ in the wars to steal their land, going as far as attempted genocide.

Germany does not have a monopoly on evil, and as a foreigner living there, it is one of the most safe and free places to live.

Paul

Meh… I luv EVs but theres no point in make these comparissions. The street EV will always be faster than a street petrol car in drag racing.

Speculawyer

No point? Did you not see that earlier story with the survey saying people don’t believe EVs are ‘fun to drive’.

Nix

+1

Meh

Maybe it’s because there’s people out there that believe there’s more to life than going in a straight line?

I for one am getting tired of seeing drag Tesla races (OK, I never liked them in the first place) .. let’s up it a notch…. I want to see a Tesla turning left 400 times.

Raymondjram

Take the amount of energy in a Model S battery (85kWh), convert that to the EPA equivalent of gasoline (33kWh = one gallon), and you have only 85/33 = 2.5 gallons. Now get your favorite race car and run it with just 2.5 gallons around the same 400 laps. The Model S will do it much better and run more laps.

mohammad

If we go by your stupid standards then a bicycle or electric scooter is better than your model s.

Mr X

I agree to what Paul says. EVs are naturally faster on the first x100 meters. Nothing new here.

Speculawyer

Yeah, it is not something new. But a key to getting a message out is repetition, repetition, and repetition.

Most people still think electric car = golf cart.

Foo

How the tables have turned… for the (VW) Golf cart.

Robert

Paul, don’t generalise, it makes you look silly.
Do you think a Renault Twizy would have won too?
DON’T think so!
I know of a Porsche Turbo with 4wd and 520bhp which would probably spank most EVs except for a P85D or that spanking White Zombie.
The Porsche is the guy’s every day drive too, not a racing car.

Kaleb

Damn if the Golf didn’t sound great though! The title says supercharged Golf, but it sounds a lot like a turbocharged straight-6; either a Toyota 1JZ or a Nissan RB25/6. I doubt it’s either, but it sounds like one of those.

Jelloslug

I though it was rather annoying sounding…

Lensman

Hey now, you need to quit picking on the poor VW (and Audi) cars. It’s not their fault they’re made by a company (and its Audi division) specializing in making gas guzzlers, rather than the company that’s leading the EV revolution!

😉

GO TESLA!

ModernMarvelFan

You know that VW is the 2nd largest automaker in the world and still owns a stake in the Porsche, right?

Porsche makes plenty of cars that would have spanked the Tesla in performance. And it makes 918 which is the fastest production car in the world.

Raymondjram

But Porshe can’t make a EV that is better AND cheaper than the Model S. Their EVs are way too expensive!

ModernMarvelFan

Looks like two crappy cars against Tesla.

How about P85D against 918 Spyder or SLE? I seriously doubt the result would be the same…

Even the regular M5, RS7 would have given the Tesla a run for its money in 1/4 miles…

Tech Talker

The Audi RS7, BMW M5, Merc E63 AMG, Merc CLS63 AMG, Audi S8, and the Porsche Panamera Turbo are Tesla’s real competition. The P85D smokes every one of them 0-60, and most likely will beat all of them in the quarter mile (Unless the driver of the ICE is skilled enough, in which case the RS7 or E63 AMG MIGHT tie it). It is hands down the best performance sedan in the world. Other than better performance, the P85D is also more practical.

sven

“[The P85D] is hands down the best performance sedan in the world.”

Not quite. The Dodge Charger Hellcat performance sedan smokes the Tesla Model S P85D in the quarter mile with a time of 11.03 seconds at 126.61 mph, while the P85D can only manage a time of 11.60 @ 114.6 mph. The Charger Hellcat has no problem making it around a road course without going into power reduced mode, unlike the Model S. The Charger Hellcat also has a starting price of only $63,290, while the Model S P85D has a whopping starting price of $105,670.

But I’d still take the P85D over the Charger Hellcat in a heartbeat. 😀

Raymondjram

But do it with no gasoline and that Dodge Hellcat becomes a $63,290 lump of steel and plastic!

mohammad

You are more likely to be the one who ends up with a $70k piece of junk. Gasoline is 500 times more available than your electric toaster’s charging stations.

ModernMarvelFan

0-60mph is fast b/c its max torque is reached around 45mph? And max HP around 73mph? LOL.

Calling it “best performance sedan” is already making excuses for it. On the drag strip, people don’t care if it is truck, SUV, sedan or coupe… Porsche 911/918 (best of Germany) will easily smoke the P85D.

“The German cars simply don’t stand a chance against the American-made electric monster that is the P85D.”

Yeah, see you later on the Autobahn.

Start at 60mph, and the German supercars will run away from the Tesla. Just compare their 60-100mph times. No comparison.
