Tesla Signs Lease For 131,000 Square-Foot Facility In Silicon Beach
Tesla continues to expand indefinitely in sought-after real estate markets.
It’s only been weeks since Tesla leased new office space in Fremont, and now, the automaker has signed another lease near Los Angeles. We have no idea exactly how the company plans to use the space, but it’s in an ideal location and offers much versatility.
We also recently reported about another area that the automaker is working to turn into a new 23,000-square foot sales and service center in Redwood City, California, conveniently located between Palo Alto and San Mateo. Just about a year ago, Tesla leased one million square feet of warehouse space in a business park 20 miles outside of Fremont.
The new 131,000 square-foot facility is located near Silicon Beach. According to the building description, it features 22-foot ceilings and would be best-suited for creative office space. Tesla will pony up $30 million for the new space (which is just $16 million less that its whole Fremont/NUMMI assembly cost them) over the course of the next seven years.
The location is close to the increasingly sought-after area of Marina Del Ray and Venice Beach. The Playa Vista tech center, which is not far from the Los Angeles International Airport, is home to Microsoft, Facebook, and Google. Many new startups are also making a footing in the area, including Snapchat and Tinder. Also advantageous is the location’s easy access to Highway 90.
With the busy Los Angeles Tesla Service Center not too far away, the location could function as a second delivery or support center. It has several large parking lots, including a secured underground garage, which could store about 400 vehicles awaiting delivery.
Though Tesla has yet to officially announce the new lease, Teslarati discovered a filing requesting a permit for an illuminated “TESLA” sign on the property.
