Taking Apart A Nissan LEAF Battery Pack – Videos

MAR 26 2015 BY TDILLARD 14

Want to see what’s inside the guts of a Nissan pack? And how to get to them? Of course you do.

You may have seen the lead-up to this work when Ben, the guy in the video, went to the junkyard to buy a Nissan battery pack out of a salvaged wreck.ย  Well, here’s the part we’ve all been waiting for.

You can follow Ben’s progress at his blog 300MPG.org

Great Video the for posting

I wonder what he’s going to do about a BMS in the Vectrix?

Drive it fast so he catches some wind? ๐Ÿ˜‰

BMS/TMS what’s the difference, it’s a some kind of MS ๐Ÿ˜‰

I think that Pack Management System is much more accurate. Pity about the acronym. ๐Ÿ˜‰

What a deep discussion to which I can relate.

PMS it is!!!

Orion makes a BMS unit that looks like it is compatible. The battery modules in the LEAF have a convenient center tap

Anyone know if this is a 2011/2012/2013/2014? I know there are differences inside but I’m not familiar enough to say which one it is.

That’s the “odd” year…definitely a 2013

What do you mean “odd” year? (besides the actual number 2013 being an odd number)

It’s not a “lizard” battery, probably the “frog” type ๐Ÿ˜‰

You can tell by the battery module case that it appears to be a 2011-2012 pack.

The 2013-2015 modules have cutouts which make them lighter.

Also, I believe the entire battery case is black instead of greyish.

Yes, it a very early pack. The newer ones are not only black painted, but have also a different connector.

Interresting clear guy, great video!
