Summon Gets Tesla Model X Out Of Super Tight Parking Space – Video

Tesla Summon

Take a look at another useful feature of Tesla Summon mode.

While this situation is admittedly setup by Bjørn Nyland to prove a point, something similar could surely happen in real life. Unfortunately, we were actually informed of a story in which someone’s Tesla was seemingly purposely blocked in by a few pickup trucks as part of a very bad joke.

Tesla Summon

No one wants to be presented with this situation. Fortunately, Tesla has a Summon feature.

Anyway, there are a few reasons that Summon mode could save the day when it comes to navigating out of tight parking situations. The most obvious need would be if you are unable to enter the vehicle. With most other cars, you would be stuck until the other driver showed up and moved. If you can’t get in the car, there is really nothing that you can do.

If you’re in a situation in which you could enter the car, but the angle of other vehicles or obstructions makes it difficult to see what you’re doing, Summon mode is also ideal. We often ask our passengers to get out of the vehicle under such circumstances, in order to direct us out of the spot, around obstacles, or simply to back out safely,  without concerns of sudden traffic or pedestrians. If you use Summon mode, you can be out of the vehicle and essentially drive it like a remote control car, slowly forward and backward, or whatever you may need, to safely maneuver your Tesla out.

If you have used Summon mode for any other similar reasons, or have another scenario in which it would prove advantageous, let us know in the comment section below.

Video Description via Bjørn Nyland on YouTube:

A created scene where a Hummer and a Honda blocks a Model X. This is not uncommon situation. Fortunately, Model X and later Model S has summon feature. This allows the user to remotely move the car back and forward.

The X is wider than a Hummer H2, Cadillac Escalade and Ford F-150, but in practice the FWDs make it very practical. I haven’t had to use summon yet. I’m a bit scared of pocket dialing it.

Metallica’s ‘For Whom The Bell Tolls’ would’ve been much more appropriate for this video…

I’ve used the model S summon to get into and out of tight parking spots in parking garages.

Could’ve entered through the falcon wings as well.

I thought summon was a silly trick when first announced, but I have used it a few times:

1. Somebody parked really close to my driver’s door (similar to the video above), so I used it to pull the car out of the spot.

2. I was taking my Mom to a doctor’s appointment. I dropped her off at the door, but the only parking spot left was a tiny one between two huge vehicles. I got out and had the car park itself.

3. It’s easier when washing the car to use summon to move the car in and out.

4. My favorite use so far was when I was meeting a friend at a coffee shop. I parked by the curb out front. Cars were coming and going all the time. I saw my friend drive up and look for a parking spot. There was room in front of my car, but not quite enough. So I used summon to back my car up from inside the restaurant, and she was able to park in front of me.
